Superleague Round 19 (Regular Season): Al Ittihad Al. defeats Al Ahly in the closest game of the week

The most exciting game of round 19 in the Superleague took place in Alexandria. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of their biggest opponent Al Ahly (12-2) to first ranked Al Ittihad Al. (13-1) 93-91 in the game for the first place. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Al Ahly C.. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Al Ittihad Al. made 23-of-25 free shots (92.0 percent) during the game. Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Cairo: Zamalek (#8) and WE Sporting (#6). WE Sporting was defeated at home 70-80 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It was an exceptional evening for the former international guard Adam Moussa (190-2002, college: CBU) who led the winners and scored 25 points and 5 assists. Hazem Elmashad accounted for 12 points and 9 rebounds. American point guard Kenny Brown (183, college: Co.Georgia) came up with 17 points and 7 assists for WE Sporting in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zamalek (7-7) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated WE Sporting.

In the last two games of round 19 bottom-ranked Petrojet lost to Sporting on the opponent's court 105-110. Al Gezira managed to outperform Smouha in a home game 69-63.

Rather expected game in Alexandria where 16th ranked Petrojet (1-13) was defeated by fourteenth ranked Sporting (3-11) 110-105. Sporting made 25-of-32 charity shots (78.1 percent) during the game. Sporting outrebounded Petrojet 46-31 including a 17-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Sporting players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Petrojet was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. It was an exceptional evening for Yassen Ahmed who led the winners and scored 26 points and 6 assists (made all of his seven free throws). Forward Ahmed Ibrahim (203, college: Marshalltown) accounted for 16 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Sporting's coach Ahmed Marei allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American-Palestinian Kyndall Dykes (192-1987, college: New Orleans, agency: Slash Sports) came up with 29 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and Ayman Chawkat added 29 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for Petrojet in the defeat. Five Sporting and four Petrojet players scored in double figures. Sporting maintains fourteenth place with 3-11 record. Petrojet lost eighth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost.

This time Al Gezira used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Smouha 69-63. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Cleveland Thomas (192-1993, college: WKU, agency: Slash Sports) who led the winners and scored 13 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Sameh Romeh accounted for 14 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Four Al Gezira players scored in double figures. Ahmed Khanka came up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds and Abdelrahman Samir added 16 points respectively for Smouha in the defeat.
