2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers - day 2: Tunisia secure large win over Chad (101-40)

Tunisia's national basketball team secured a second large win in a row after defeating Chad's 101-40 at a 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers day-2 (Group A) game played on Saturday in Yaounde, Cameroon. The national team, who had defeated Guinea's 96-56 at day-1 on Friday, will play hosts Cameroon on Sunday. The 2019 FIBA African Qualifiers kicked off on Friday with the participation of 16 countries distributed in four groups (A, B, C, D), who will be competing for one of the 5 tickets qualifying for the World Cup that will take place in China from August 31 to September 15, 2019. The 16 teams that qualified and participated in the AfroBasket 2017 have automatically earned their place in the World Cup African qualifiers. The World Cup will include 32 teams instead of 24. The cities of Yaounde (Cameroon) and Luanda (Angola) host from November 24 to 26 the first tournaments of groups A and C of the playoffs. Yaounde will host group A consisting of Cameroon, Guinea, Chad and Tunisia (recently crowned champions of Africa), Group C will gather for its part in Luanda Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt and Morocco. The names of the host cities of Group B (Nigeria, Mali, Uganda and Rwanda) and Group D (Senegal, Cote d'Ivoire, Mozambique and Central Africa), which will compete in February, will be announced at a later date, said FIBA Africa. According to the new qualification system, each team will play against the other three of the group at tournaments held in November 2017, February 2018 and June 2018. For the second qualifying phase, the first three of each group, i.e. 12 teams will be divided into two pools (E, F) while retaining the points obtained in the first phase. The teams will play over two legs between September 2018 and February 2019. The top two in each group and the best third will qualify for the World Cup in China. For the first time, Africa will send five teams to the major FIBA tournament.
