Mali opened win count in Bamako. They topped Algeria for 1-0 record. Algeria posted a 33:29 halftime lead. They extended the margin at 15-point mark at the final intermission. However Mali responded with a strong 30:13 run in the fourth frame to snatch the win. Ibrahim Djambo (208-F-92, college: Hofstra, agency: AgainHello) delivered 16 points, while Ousmane Traore (192-F-98) added 10 points for Mali. Abdellah Hamdini (200-F-92) replied with 17 points for Algeria.
Group B
Nigeria - Kenya 69-81
Kenya beat Nigeria to gain the first victory in Group B. Tylor Ongwae (201-F-91, college: ULM) stepped up with 31 points and 9 assists for the winners. Kenya grabbed a 34:29 halftime lead. Kenya followed with a 28:17 run in the fourth term to run to the victory. Erick Mutoro (180-PG-92) and Okall Koranga (206-PF-90) chipped in 12 points each for Kenya. Ibe Agu (201-G-97) netted 13 points for Nigeria.
Group C
Angola - Chad 95-83
Angola clinched the first win at AfroCan. They defeated Chad to open win count. Angola went on a 64:41 run in the second and third periods to clear off for good. Childe Dundao (167-G-98) came up with 17 points, while Hermenegildo Santos (192-G-90) contributed 14 points for Angola. Bienvenu Djimassal (200-C-93) knocked down 22 points for Chad.
Group D
Tunisia - Guinea 77-58
Wassef Methnani (203-F-98) recorded 15 points and 10 rebounds as Tunisia beat Guinea. Tunisia recorded a 38:23 halftime lead. They maintained the lead throughout the second half and rallied to the first win at the tournament. Jawhar Jawadi (189-F-97) accounted for 13 points for Tunisia. Cedric Mansare (198-F-85) answered with 17 points for Guinea.
