Rwanda outscored South Africa at the start of the championship. Rwanda recorded a 50-29 halftime lead. The hosts narrowed the gap in the second half but could not avoid the defeat. Dylan Kayijuka (2006) posted 25 points and 14 rebounds, while Sean Williams (2008) added 22 points for Rwanda. Taite Hendricks (2006) answered with 12 points for South Africa.

Morocco - Zambia 84-67
Morocco claimed the opening win at the tournament. They stormed past Zambia in the opener. Morocco registered a 44-29 halftime lead. Zambia narrowed the gap at 5-point mark heading into the fourth frame. But Morocco sank 27 points in the fourth stanza to race to the win. Rayane Solhi (G-2007) notched 21 points for Morocco. Frank Siame (2007) answered with 26 points for Zambia.
