Gabon have been awarded a wild card to take part in this month's 2016 FIBA Africa U18 Championship, it was announced on Tuesday following a decision made by the FIBA Africa Board. The continental tournament will take place in Kigali, Rwanda, from 22-31 July. Despite losing two of their FIBA Africa Zone 4 qualifiers against the Democratic Republic of Congo early this week in their capital city of Libreville, Gabon will be making their second straight appearance at FIBA Africa U18 Championship. With the decision, Gabon round out the field for Africa's 12-team top youth competition, which includes: Algeria, Angola, Benin, Cote d'Ivoire, DR Congo, Egypt, Mali, hosts Rwanda, Tunisia,Uganda, and Zimbabwe. The winner and runners-up of the tournament will secure automatic qualification for next year's FIBA U19 World Championship in Cairo, Egypt.
