1st Team Honorable Mention Mali celebrate Gold medals in Cairo - Aug 15, 2021 FINALEgypt - Mali 65-68Mali celebrated the title in Cairo. They upset hosting Egypt to claim the trophy. The teams went neck and neck throughout the first half. Egypt and Mali went into the big break tied at 29. Egypt pulled ahead in the third term. They ensured a 3-point lead at the final break. But Mali turned things around in the fourth quarter. They ignited a 22-16 run and rallied to the seventh straight U16 African title. Rokiatou Berthe (06) came up with 28 points for Mali. Maya Ahmed (184-F/C-05) responded with 17 points for Egypt. 3-4 PlaceUganda - Algeria 51-53Algeria stepped onto the pedestal in Cairo. They nipped Uganda to earn the third place. Algeria used a 16-2 second quarter rally to take a 12-point halftime lead. Uganda pulled within one point at the final break. But Algeria hung on to a slim lead to snatch a narrow win at the end. Mali - Algeria 79-14 Mali knocked down Algeria to advance into Final in Cairo. It was all about Mali in this one. They grabbed a 29-7 halftime lead. Mali held Algeria scoreless in the third period to boost the lead to as many as 47 points and coasted to the victory in the final ten minutes. Rokiatou Berthe (06) notched 13 points, while Alimata Coulibaly (05) and Mariam Sarr (05) delivered 12 points each for Mali. Loubna Ferikh (169-PG-05) tossed in 4 points for Algeria. Egypt - Uganda 119-42 Egypt stormed Uganda en route to the Final in Cairo. The hosts dominated throughout the game. They claimed a 61-21 halftime lead. Egypt held Uganda to just 21 points in the second half and raced to a comfortable win. Mali - Chad 78-22 Mali recorded the fourth win at the tournament as they knocked down Chad. Mali led from start to finish. They built a 40-13 halftime lead and cruised to the victory in the second half. Alimata Coulibaly (05) finished with 14 points and 16 rebounds, while Mable Doumbia (06) and Mariam Sarr (05) added 12 points each for Mali. Yessaigne Dallyam (05) answered with 7 points for Chad. Egypt - Gabon 164-10 Egypt cruised past Gabon to finish preliminary round at 5-0 record. Egypt built a comfortable 78-5 halftime lead and breezed to the victory in the second half. Uganda - Gabon 53-25 Uganda thumped Gabon to improve at 2-2 record at the championship. Uganda ignited a 14-2 run in the first period. They went on a 33-11 rally in the second half to seal the victory. Mariam Namukwaya (05) tallied 14 points and 17 rebounds, while Gertrude Nyamutoro (06) added 13 points for Uganda. The hosts posted a 26-16 lead ten minutes into the game. Mali narrowed the gap to a single point at the final break. But Egypt used a 19-10 run in the fourth frame to secure the win.
