They upset hosting Egypt to claim the trophy. The teams went neck and neck throughout the first half. Egypt and Mali went into the big break tied at 29. Egypt pulled ahead in the third term. They ensured a 3-point lead at the final break. But Mali turned things around in the fourth quarter. They ignited a 22-16 run and rallied to the seventh straight U16 African title. Rokiatou Berthe (06) came up with 28 points for Mali. Maya Ahmed (184-F/C-05) responded with 17 points for Egypt. 3-4 PlaceUganda - Algeria 51-53Algeria stepped onto the pedestal in Cairo. They nipped Uganda to earn the third place. Algeria used a 16-2 second quarter rally to take a 12-point halftime lead. Uganda pulled within one point at the final break. But Algeria hung on to a slim lead to snatch a narrow win at the end. Ikram Korichi (178-F-05) provided 12 points for Algeria. Cherine Larbi (160-G-06) added 9 points for the winning side. Mali - Algeria 79-14 Mali knocked down Algeria to advance into Final in Cairo. It was all about Mali in this one. They grabbed a 29-7 halftime lead. Mali held Algeria scoreless in the third period to boost the lead to as many as 47 points and coasted to the victory in the final ten minutes. Rokiatou Berthe (06) notched 13 points, while Alimata Coulibaly (05) and Mariam Sarr (05) delivered 12 points each for Mali. Loubna Ferikh (169-PG-05) tossed in 4 points for Algeria. Egypt - Uganda 119-42 Egypt stormed Uganda en route to the Final in Cairo. The hosts dominated throughout the game. They claimed a 61-21 halftime lead. Egypt held Uganda to just 21 points in the second half and raced to a comfortable win. Jana Sallman (189-F-06) provided 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Jana Elalfy (192-C-05) added 16 points for the winning side. Darlene Tashobya (05) replied with 14 points for Uganda. Mali - Chad 78-22 Mali recorded the fourth win at the tournament as they knocked down Chad. Mali led from start to finish. They built a 40-13 halftime lead and cruised to the victory in the second half. Alimata Coulibaly (05) finished with 14 points and 16 rebounds, while Mable Doumbia (06) and Mariam Sarr (05) added 12 points each for Mali. Yessaigne Dallyam (05) answered with 7 points for Chad. Egypt - Gabon 164-10 Egypt cruised past Gabon to finish preliminary round at 5-0 record. Egypt built a comfortable 78-5 halftime lead and breezed to the victory in the second half. Kenzy Ibrahim (171-PG-05) delivered 30 points, while Jana Sallman (189-F-06) and Jana Elalfy (192-C-05) tossed in 23 points each for Egypt. Jeanette Fouty (185-C-06) responded with 4 points for Gabon. Uganda - Algeria 44-46 Algeria nipped Uganda for the third win in Cairo. Algeria grabbed a 29-21 halftime lead. Uganda responded with an 18-2 run in the third term to spur ahead. But Algeria struck right back with a 15-5 rally to snatch the win. Uganda - Gabon 53-25 Uganda thumped Gabon to improve at 2-2 record at the championship. Uganda ignited a 14-2 run in the first period. They went on a 33-11 rally in the second half to seal the victory. Mariam Namukwaya (05) tallied 14 points and 17 rebounds, while Gertrude Nyamutoro (06) added 13 points for Uganda. Jeanette Fouty (185-C-06) replied with 13 points and 20 rebounds for Gabon. Algeria - Chad 33-30 Algeria held off Chad to gain the second win in Cairo. The teams were tied at 16 heading into the second half. Chad surged ahead to take a 7-point lead at the final break. But Algeria held their opponents to only 2 points in the fourth frame to secure the win. Khadidja Kaouah (185-C-05) answered with 10 points for Algeria. Denise Naldjim (06) answered with 10 points and 11 rebounds for Chad. Egypt - Mali 66-56 Egypt held off Mali for the fourth straight win in Cairo. The hosts posted a 26-16 lead ten minutes into the game. Mali narrowed the gap to a single point at the final break. But Egypt used a 19-10 run in the fourth frame to secure the win. Algeria - Mali 18-104 Mali recorded the third straight victory as they crushed Algeria. Mali grabbed a massive 60-10 halftime lead and coasted to the victory in the second half. Rokiatou Berthe (06) posted 35 points, while Mariam Sarr (05) added 22 points, 15 rebounds, 17 steals and 7 assists for the winners. Hadjer Yahou (162-G-05) answered with 6 points for Algeria. Uganda - Egypt 17-89 Egypt knocked down Uganda to stay undefeated at the championship. The hosts piled up a 41-10 halftime lead. They held Uganda to just 7 points in the second half and rallied to the victory. Jana Elalfy (192-C-05) stepped up with 21 points, while Maya Ahmed (184-F/C-05) added 12 points for Egypt. Gertrude Nyamutoro (06) replied with 9 points for Uganda. Chad - Gabon 84-29 Chad stormed past Gabon for the first win in Cairo. Chad dominated from start to finish. Gabon - Mali 14-153 Mali drubbed Gabon for the second win in Cairo. Mali kept Gabon scoreless through three quarters out of four and rallied to a convincing victory. Egypt - Algeria 101-23 Egypt thumped Algeria to rally to the second victory. The hosts piled up a 57-15 halftime advantage. They held Algeria to just 8 points in the second half and raced to the win.
