Mali celebrate the title in Madagascar - Jul 19, 2015

FINAL
Nigeria - Mali 46-57
Mali completed their undefeated run with the victory over Nigeria in the African Championship Final. Mali therefore celebrated the well-deserved title. Mariam Traore (169-G-00) finished with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the champions. Mali earned a comfortable 31:17 halftime lead. They extended the gap at 16-point mark at the final intermission and cruised to the victory. Rokia Doumbia delivered 14 points and 6 rebounds for Mali. Lucy Chinelo responded with 16 points for Nigeria.
3-4 Place
Mozambique - Angola 48-52
Angola stepped onto the pedestal at the championship. They beat Mozambique in the consolation final. Regina Pequeno posted 25 points and 9 rebounds to pace the winners. Mozambique earned a 17:11 lead after ten minutes. But Angola erased the deficit in the next two periods. They established a 35:31 lead at the final break. Angola maintained the lead throughout the fourth frame and drove to the win. Breone Goncalves had 9 points in the victory. Shelsea Rafael responded with 12 points for Mozambique.

5-6 Place
Tunisia - Madagascar 57-64
Madagascar clinched the fifth position at the home championship. They fired past Tunisia in the final game. Minaoharisoa Jaofera provided 21 points in the win. Tunisia and Madagascar were tied at 25 after twenty minutes. But Madagascar rallied to an 11-point lead at the final break. Tunisia narrowed the gap in the fourth frame but could not avoid the defeat. Jessica Vavisoa accounted for 40 rebounds and 2 points for the hosts. Marwa Shili answered with 14 points and 9 rebounds for Tunisia.

7-8 Place
Egypt - Morocco 61-46
Egypt finished their African Championship campaign on a high note. They toppled Morocco to occupy the 7th position. Rania Abdelatty and Ingy Mahmoud posted 17 points each for the winners. Egypt recorded a 29:21 halftime lead. They extended the gap at 18-point mark at the final break and never looked back en route to the win. Reem Fawy had 11 points and 8 rebounds for Egypt. Nissrine El Khessassi responded with 18 points for Morocco.


Mali and Nigeria to clash for title in Madagascar - Jul 18, 2015

SEMIFINALS
Mali - Angola 86-46
Mali cruised past Angola to seal their place in the title game. Mali will now take on Nigeria for the trophy. Salimatou Kourouma accounted for 22 points, 14 rebounds and 10 steals to lead the winners. Mali built a 39:25 halftime lead. Mali went on a 22:7 rally in the third term to clear off for good. Djeneba Sangare had 14 points for the winners. Denise Da Silva answered with 9 points for Angola.

Nigeria - Mozambique 54-51
Nigeria advanced into the championship Final. They beat Mozambique in the first semifinal in Madagascar. Mozambique recorded a 16:5 lead after the opening quarter. But Nigeria bounced back in the second frame. They sank 20 points to take a 25:24 halftime lead. Nigeria then went on a 29:27 second half rally and eked out a tough victory at the end. Lucy Chinelo and Vanessa Oduah came up with 16 points each for the winners. Carla Covane responded with 12 points and 19 rebounds for Mozambique.


Mali, Angola, Nigeria and Mozambique advance into semifinals - Jul 17, 2015

Morocco - Mali 24-73
Mali cruised past Morocco to book the semifinal appearance. Rokia Doumbia recorded 17 points to lead the winners. Mali piled up a 27:13 halftime lead. They went on a 26:7 rally in the third term to clear off. Mali held their opponents to just 4 points in the fourth quarter and cruised to the win. Mariam Traore and Assetou Sissoko had 8 points each for Mali. Chaimae Salimi answered with 6 points for Morocco.

Angola - Madagascar 79-57
Angola booked their place in the Afrobasket semifinals. They overcame hosting Madagascar in the quarterfinal clash today. Isabel Fernando posted 18 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Angola recorded a 38:22 halftime lead. They kept Madagascar at bay throughout the second half and rallied to the victory. Breone Goncalves accounted for 16 points in the win. Domoina Andriatahina responded with 10 points for Madagascar.

Tunisia - Nigeria 44-55
Nigeria outgunned Tunisia behind 21 points and 8 rebounds from Rita James. They therefore advanced into the semifinal stage. Tunisia built a 22:17 halftime advantage. Nigeria bounced back in the third term. They held Tunisia to just 10 points to surge ahead. Nigeria went on a 21:12 rally in the fourth quarter and sealed the victory. Monica Ezekiel had 10 points for the winners. Marwa Shili responded with 14 points and 6 rebounds for Tunisia.

Egypt - Mozambique 46-48
Mozambique snatched a narrow victory over Egypt to reach the semifinal stage. Chanaya Pinto tallied 17 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Mozambique registered a 27:19 halftime lead. They extended the margin at 13-point mark at the final intermission. Egypt narrowed the gap in the fourth quarter but could not avoid the defeat at the end. Ester Gomes and Veronica Salifu tossed in 10 points each for the winning side. Raneem Mohamed (186-C-97) responded with 16 points and 6 rebounds for Egypt.


Quarterfinalists determined in Madagascar - Jul 16, 2015

Group A
Morocco - Egypt 37-62
Egypt wrapped up their Group stage campaign with a comfortable victory over Morocco. Mahinour Mohamed stepped up with 14 points to lead the winners. Egypt piled up a 31:14 halftime lead. Morocco pulled within 12 points at the final intermission but Egypt responded with 23:11 run in the fourth frame to seal the victory. Aya Abdelrahmanmahmoud accounted for 8 points in the win. Maria Loukili responded with 17 points and 10 rebounds for Morocco.

Group B
Mozambique - Angola 62-56
Mozambique held off Angola to occupy the second position in Group B. Madina Camara stepped up with 17 points to pace the winners. Mozambique recorded a 36:23 halftime lead. Angola narrowed the deficit in the third term. The teams traded baskets throughout the fourth frame as Mozambique hung to win the battle. Veronica Salifu had 15 points and 10 boards for the winners. Regina Pequeno responded with 22 points and 8 rebounds for Angola.

Mali - Rwanda 111-23
Mali stayed unbeaten in Madagascar. They stormed past Rwanda to earn 4-0 record on top of Group B. Seven players scored in double digits for Mali. Assetou Bagayoko stepped up with 20 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Mali used a massive 60:5 run in the first half to clear off. They never looked back aftewards. Salimatou Kourouma had 16 points for the winners. Bela Morukatete responded with 11 points and 17 rebounds for Rwanda.

Morocco - Nigeria 26-42
Nigeria outgunned Morocco in a low-scoring affair on Tuesday. Rita James stepped up with 11 points to pace the winners. Nigeria eked out a 12:4 halftime lead. They extended the gap at 18-point mark at the final break. Nigeria kept Morocco at bay throughout the fourth quarter and raced to the victory. Ene Blessing posted 7 points and 12 rebounds in the win. Rkia Mouharrar responded with 14 points for Morocco.

Egypt - Madagascar 65-70
Madagascar snatched a narrow victory over Egypt to improve at 2-1 record in Group A. Joafera finished with 17 points to pace the hosts. Egypt enjoyed a 22:17 lead after ten minutes. Madagascar denied the deficit in the next two quarters to take a narrow 4-point lead at the final break. Madagascar scored 18 points in the fourth quarter and raced to the win. Jessica Vavisoa accounted for 16 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Reem Fawy responded with 15 points and 9 rebounds for Egypt.

Group B
Angola - Rwanda 81-44
Angola cruised past Rwanda to celebrate the second victory in Group B. Valeriana Moxi nailed 18 points and made 7 steals to pace the charge. Angola piled up a 35:22 halftime lead. They went on a 21:10 rally in the third quarter to boost the margin. Angola sank 25 points in the fourth quarter and sealed the victory. Bella Murekatete responded with 12 points and 14 boards for Rwanda.

Mozambique - Tunisia 66-62
Mozambique secured the second victory in Madagascar. They held off Tunisia for 2-1 record in Group B. Chanaya Pinto tallied 24 points, 12 rebounds and 7 steals in the victory. Mozambique accounted for 35:26 halftime lead. Tunisia held Mozambique to just 14 points in the fourth quarter but could not avoid the defeat. Rwanda - Tunisia 47-74
Tunisia beat Rwanda for the opening victory in Group B. Marwa Shili posted 21 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds to lead the effort. Tunisia accumulated a 29:24 halftime lead. They stretched the margin at 12-point mark at the final intermission. Tunisia knocked down 28 points in the fourth quarter and rallied to the victory. Ichrak Jebali had 14 points for the winners. Bella Murekatete responded with 24 points and 37 rebounds for Rwanda in the loss.

Nigeria posted the second straigth victory at the tournament. They held off Madagascar to improve at 2-0 record in Group A. Lucy Chinelo accounted for 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the winners. Onome Akinbode and Rita James added 12 points each for Nigeria. They grabbed a 28:23 halftime lead. Madagascar erased the deficit and jumped to a 3-point lead at the final intermission. But Nigeria bounced back with a 20:10 rally in the fourth term and sealed the victory. Sariaka Totofidy netted 15 points to lead Madagascar.

Group B
Rwanda - Mozambique 22-96
Chanaya Pinto scored 23 points and grabbed 9 rebounds to lead Mozambique to an easy victory over Rwanda. Mozambique dominated from start to finish. They accumulated a 21:5 lead after the opening quarter. They stretched the gap at 28-point mark at the interval 37:9. Mozambique unloaded 59 points in the second half and cruised to the victory. Madina Camara contributed 20 points for the winners. Bella Murekatete responded with 10 points and 20 rebounds for Rwanda.

Tunisia - Mali 53-81
Salimatou Kourouma nailed 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Mali past Tunisia in Group B. Mali improved 2-0 record following the victory. Mali registered a 36:24 halftime lead. They extended the margin at 24-point mark at the final break and never looked back en route to the win. Rokia Doumbia finished with 12 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Marwa Shili answered with 20 points and 9 rebounds as Tunisia fell at 0-2 record.
