COPPERBELT University (CBU) Comets defeated Fairview Falcons 48-43 but crashed out of the Copperbelt Basketball Association season open championship. With this result, Solwezi Panthers were the biggest winners of the day without taking to the court as they went through to the semi-finals on a better head to head result. Panthers and Comets only lost one game each in Group B, but Panthers beat Comets in their earlier meeting, hence they punched the ticket to the semis. Falcons lost to both Panthers and Comets. Group B remained in the balance from last weekend, hence it was stretched to yesterday in order to separate the three leading teams. The reward for the Solwezi-based Panthers is a semi-final match up with the CEC Cavaliers who emerged top of Group C and had to wait for another week to learn the identity of their opponents. The other semi has a mouth watering rivalry matchup of league champions Lunga Bullets from Kitwe against Ndola Nets.
In the feminine semis, CBU Robins renew their rivalry with across town nemesis in CEC Queens while Busher will take on Don Bosco Storm for a spot in the finals. The semi-final games are scheduled for Chingola Don Bosco Youth Centre on Saturday June 4 and the finals shall be played the following day which will flag off the CBA league.
