 |
We bring you last week's top performances from Tunisians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
#1. This week's number one is an international shooting guard
Michael Roll (198-87, college:
UCLA, currently plays in Israel). He led
Maccabi T-A to a victory against the closely-ranked Maccabi Ashdod (11-5)
104-100 in the Israeli Winner League in Monday night's game.
Roll recorded 15 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists (made all of his five free throws) in 30 minutes on the court.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Maccabi Fox Tel-Aviv (12-3) is placed first in the Winner League.
This year Roll averages: 10.0ppg, 2.5rpg, 3.3apg, 2FGP: 50.8%, 3FGP: 52.4%(22-42) and FT: 95.2%(20-21) in 15 games he played so far.
He is a naturalized American.
Roll is currently a member of the Tunisian senior national team. Strangely he has never played in Tunisia.
#2. Second place goes to an experienced international center
Salah Mejri (217-86, currently plays in NBA). Mejri could not help the
Dallas Mavericks (24-28) to beat the Detroit Pistons (22-29).
He recorded only 4 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks.
The Dallas Mavericks (24-28) were defeated
93-89 on the road by the Pistons.
Mejri's overall stats this season are: 2.5ppg, 2.5rpg, 2FGP: 57.7%(15-26) and FT: 87.5%.
He is in the roster of the Tunisian senior national team.
#3. The Tunisian player who performed third best last week abroad was former U19 international forward
Wassef Methnani (203-98, currently plays college basketball in the States). Methnani contributed to
Fairfield's victory against the Iona College (0-6)
80-68 in the NCAA on Sunday night.
He recorded 11 points in only a mere 6 minutes.
The Fairfield University has not so impressive 2-5 conference record this season.
This year Methnani's overall stats are: 5.8ppg, 2.7rpg, 2FGP: 46.4%, 3FGP: 39.5% in 21 games.
He played for the Tunisian U19 national team four years ago.
#4. Power forward
Makram Ben Romdhane (205-89, currently plays in France) contributed to a
Saint Chamond's victory against the 11th-ranked Paris (7-9)
75-66 in the French ProB (second division) in Friday night's game.
Ben Romdhane scored 6 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished 4 assists.
Saint Chamond Basket Valle du Gier (11-6) is placed sixth in the ProB.
Ben Romdhane has relatively good stats this season: 11.8ppg, 9.8rpg, 3.5apg and 1.6spg.
He is also Tunisian national team player.
#5. Former U18 international forward
Ismail Chrigui (197-98, currently plays in Austria) helped
Arkadia Lions edge the closely-ranked Dukes (12-9)
88-87 in the Austrian A Bundesliga last Thursday.
Chrigui scored 6 points in 15 minutes.
Arkadia Traiskirchen Lions (11-10) are placed fifth in the A Bundesliga.
They ended the series of three consecutive loses.
This year Chrigui averages only 1.9ppg in seven games.
He used to play for the Tunisian U18 national team
three years ago.
One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Tunisian passport: #1. Ahmed Salman, who plays in the Bahrain Premier League could not help
Isa Town (0-3) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Salman's very good performance the sixth-placed Isa Town (0-3) was edged
73-70 on the road by the leading Samaheej in the Silver group.
He was the top scorer with 28 points. Salman also added 7 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws).
The Second Stage already ended.
It's Salman's first season with the team.
