Mwanza Basketball Body Gear Up for Successful Taifa Cup

Mwanza Regional Basketball Association (MRBA) has confirmed that they will send the regional team (Mwanza Heroes) to compete in the Taifa Cup tournament to be held in Arusha from December 1st this year. MRBA Secretary General, Shomari Almasi said they will only send men team, which is currently undergoing extensive training at BOT (Bank of Tanzania) courts located in Pasiansi Ward in the city. He further said that a total of 33 players are attending training, saying the number will be trimmed down to 12 players, who will travel to Arusha for the annual tournament. Since local transport and other cost will be covered by the hosts region Arusha, Shomari, who is the former national team player, said MRBA is seeking 2m/- for transport to Arusha. Meanwhile, the Secretary General of Shinyanga Regional Basketball Association (SHIBA) Charles Dismas has confirmed that they will send both men and ladies teams to Arusha for the tournament. He said his teams are now training at Risasi courts located in Shinyanga Municipal. Dismas remained optimistic that Shinyanga will do well in the competition. Last time for Shinyanga to participate in the Taifa Cup was in 2012. Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) Commissioner for Technical Development and Competition, Michael Mwita has called upon the teams to prepare well in order to have a successful and competitive event. Mwita said the tournament will be used as a platform to select the national teams-- both men and ladies and the national team U-21 for international competitions. Mwita said 21 regions will compete in the tournament namely hosts Arusha, Manyara, Tanga, Kilimanjaro, Singida, Dodoma, Shinyanga, Mwanza, Kigoma, Katavi, Rukwa, Iringa and Mbeya.
