WBNL Round 9 (Regular Season): Mountaineers beat Marlins in the most crucial game of the week

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Kwazulu. Third ranked Mountaineers faced 4th placed Marlins. Guests from Cape (3-1) defeated host Marlins (1-3) 62-53. Mountaineers forced 43 Marlins turnovers. The best player for the winners was Talita Memani who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds. Chauness Goliath chipped in 7 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was Ayajabula Mthethwa who recorded a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds. Marlins' coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Magic and Zebras. Marlins at the other side keep the fourth place with three games lost.
Marlins can celebrate finally their first win this season after three consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Pride (0-4) 61-49. It was a good game for the former international power forward Jana Cupedo who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks. Ayajabula Mthethwa contributed with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Basetsana Taukobong answered with 2 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for Pride. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. It was the only win of host team this round and in all other games visitors recorded victories. Marlins maintains fourth place with 1-3 record. It was Pride's fourth loss in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Rhinos. Marlins will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Pride will play on the road against the league's second-placed Warriors (#2) in Bloemfontein and hopes to get finally their first victory.
