WBNL Round 9: Egoli M. beat FS Warriors in the most crucial game of the week- June 25, 2023

FS Warriors - Egoli M. 31-76 An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Bloemfontein. Leader Egoli M. faced 3rd placed FS Warriors. Guests from Johannesburg (4-0) smashed host FS Warriors (1-2) 76-31. Egoli M. held FS Warriors to an opponent 22.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 50.8 percent accuracy of the winners. Egoli M. forced 33 FS Warriors turnovers and outrebounded them 41-30 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by FS Warriors' players. The best player for the winners was Katia Matlombe who scored 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Phindile Nkosi chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Four Egoli M. players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Mpho Khampepe who recorded 7 points and 5 rebounds and Ntsabiseng Motaung added 4 points and 6 rebounds respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Egoli M. have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 4-0 record. FS Warriors at the other side dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. They share it with M.Rhinos. Egoli M. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. FS Warriors will play against the league's second-placed Limpopo P. (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Limpopo P. forced 22 KZ Marlins turnovers. It was a good game for Lufuno Mutungutungu who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 13 rebounds. Boitumelo Masenamela contributed with 7 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Pretty Shange answered with 14 points and 5 rebounds and Lineo Rakuoane added 6 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for KZ Marlins. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Limpopo P. moved-up to second place, which they share with Tshwane S. KZ Marlins at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. Limpopo P. will play against FS Warriors (#4) in Bloemfontein in the next round.
