WBNL Round 7: Soweto P. keep a leadership position- June 12, 2023

Soweto P. - NC Zebras 76-50 The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Soweto P. as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Soweto P. smashed 4th placed NC Zebras in Johannesburg 76-50. Soweto P. held NC Zebras to an opponent 23.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 38.6 percent accuracy of the winners. Soweto P. forced 31 NC Zebras turnovers. 25 personal fouls committed by NC Zebras helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of Siphiwe Chitlango who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Botswana forward Monicah Tlou (175-1996) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Mamotsoari Mofokeng answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds and Lindani Manda added 11 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for NC Zebras. NC Zebras' coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. NC Zebras at the other side still closes the standings with one game lost. NC Zebras will play next round against strong WC Mountaineers trying to get back on the winning streak. Soweto P. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. (1-1) recorded its first loss in Mbombela. Visitors were defeated by sixth ranked Rhinos (1-2) 43-37. Rhinos forced 26 Tshwane S. turnovers. It was a great evening for Rachel Ngona who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds. Enathi Petse helped adding 10 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side Zimbabwean Charity Chigumba (176-1986) responded with 6 points and 10 rebounds and Charmaine Amoda scored 4 points and 7 rebounds. Tshwane S.'s coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Rhinos left bottom position moving up to fourth place. Tshwane S. at the other side keeps the third position with one game lost. They share it with Limpopo P. and FS Warriors. Rhinos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tshwane S. will play at home against the league's second-placed WC Mountaineers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
