Mozambique improved to 3-1 record in Group A after the victory over South Africa in Day 4 of the 21st FIBA Africa Championship for Women. Antananarivo, Madagascar saw 54:47 victory for Mozambique that is second in the group. South Africa dropped at 1-3 and now is fifth in the group.
South Africa opened the game with 16-11 as both sides looked well in the beginning of the game. Mozambique started to reduce the gap and produced 15-9 in the second period for the halftime advantage. In the third period the latter grabbed the lead after 19-13 in it. Effort made to come back into the game could only yield a 12-09 points win in the last quarter as the Mozambique held their ground.
Leia Dongue paced all the winners with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Lebwaba finished the game with 18 points and 8 rebounds in the losing effort.
Mozambique will play next with Madagascar on Wednesday. Senegal remains the only undefeated team at the 21st FIBA Africa Championship for Women. In Day 4 the team overcame the hosts 90:39 for 4-0 record. South Africa will engage Cameroon that smashed Mauritius in Day 4 108:36. Day 5 will be the last in the Preliminary Round.
