Fifth-ranked RP-IPRC Huye (9-8) made lots of trouble for third ranked Kepler (14-3) in Butare on Sunday. The visitors from Kigali managed to secure only three-point victory 62-59. However their fans expected easier game. Kepler forced 23 RP-IPRC Huye turnovers. The best player for the winners was Nelly Akariza (-2007) who had a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Beninese center Veronica Keita (190-2001) chipped in 10 points and 14 rebounds. Kepler's coach Rene Sahabu used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Stella Dusingizumuremyi (154-2003) who recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Newly promoted Kepler maintains third place with 14-3 record having seven points less than leader REG. RP-IPRC Huye lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with eight games lost. Kepler will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. RP-IPRC Huye will play on the road against UR BBC (#10) in Kigali and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Kigali: Azomco (#6) and EA Univ (#8). Azomco (9-9) won against visiting EA Univ (8-11) 74-67. It was a good game for Stephanie Kanyere who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 17 rebounds and 8 assists. Nivin Lokuku contributed with 18 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks for the winners. Yvonne Muhawenimana (-2006) answered with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for EA Univ. EA Univ's coach Jean-Paul Niyimbona rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Azomco have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Newly promoted Azomco maintains sixth place with 9-9 record. EA Univ at the other side dropped to the seventh position with 11 games lost. Azomco's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Kigali to the arena UR Kigali.
UR Kigali can celebrate finally their first win this season after 17 consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Kigali, where they defeated UR BBC (1-17) 68-51 on Sunday. It was a great evening for Manishimwe Izadufasha who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 22 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Hirwa Sandrine with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. UR Kigali left bottom position moving up to tenth place, which they share with defeated UR BBC. It was UR BBC's tenth loss in a row. UR Kigali's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kigali Azomco.
