RBL Round 14 (Regular Season): REG defeat Patriots in the closest game of the week

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 14 in the RBL took place in Kigali. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of one of their biggest challengers Patriots (10-6) to second ranked REG (11-3) 70-68 in the game for the second place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Patriots. REG dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Patriots' 22. Point guard Jean Umuhoza (175-2001) scored 20 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international Prince Muhizi (-1996) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. REG's coach Ogoh Odaudu used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. International Steven Hagumintwari (198-1993) responded with 22 points and 9 rebounds. REG have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 11-3 record having six points less than leader APR. Patriots at the other side keep the third place with six games lost.
Bottom-ranked Espoir managed to get a second victory, breaking the eleven-game losing streak. This time they edged eighth-ranked Azomco in Kigali 95-93. Center Fortunate Mwanawabene (-1998) notched 37 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and Franck Nyembo supported him with 24 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Even a double-double of 15 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists by Richard Bizimungu did not help to save the game for Azomco. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Espoir maintains ninth position with 2-14 record. Newly promoted Azomco keeps the eighth place with 12 games lost.
Fifth ranked UGB (8-6) beat at home 9th ranked Espoir (2-14) by 5 points 93-88, which is the biggest margin this round on Wednesday night. The best player for the winners was Amatoe Kofi who had a double-double by scoring 25 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Fortunate Mwanawabene produced 24 points, 5 assists and 5 steals for the guests. UGB have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Tigers. Espoir lost eleventh consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost.

The most impressive stats of the last round was 16 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks by Jarode Aworet of Azomco.



UGB - Espoir 93-88

Fifth ranked UGB (8-6) beat at home 9th ranked Espoir (2-14) by 5 points 93-88, which is the biggest margin this round on Wednesday night. UGB dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Espoir's 40. UGB looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was Amatoe Kofi who had a double-double by scoring 25 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Center Eric Kayondo chipped in 22 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Center Fortunate Mwanawabene (-1998) produced 24 points, 5 assists and 5 steals and DR Congolese Franck Nyembo (-2006) added 21 points and 9 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. UGB have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Tigers. Espoir lost eleventh consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost.
