D1 Round 9 (Regular Season): EA Univ edge Azomco by three points

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game of round 9 in the D1 took place in Kigali. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Azomco (4-5) to fifth ranked EA Univ (6-4) 74-71 in the game for the fifth place. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Azomco. EA Univ forced 31 Azomco turnovers. The best player for the winners was Yvonne Muhawenimana (-2006) who scored 22 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Diane Izerimana (-2000) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was South Sudanese Nivin Lokuku (-2003) who recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. EA Univ have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 6-4 record. Newly promoted Azomco keeps the sixth position with five games lost. They share it with GSMRR.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Kigali: REG (#2) and EA Univ (#5). REG (7-1) crushed visiting EA Univ (6-4) by 55 points 97-42. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of EA Univ. It was a good game for Mali Kadidia Maiga (185-1997) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists. Odile Tetero contributed with 13 points, 9 rebounds, 10 assists and 5 steals for the winners. Guard Ange Uwiringiyimana answered with 18 points and 6 rebounds for EA Univ. EA Univ's coach Jean-Paul Niyimbona gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for REG. Defending champion maintains second place with 7-1 record having five points less than leader Kepler. EA Univ at the other side keeps the fifth position with four games lost.

Rachel Gikundiro stepped up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 21 rebounds for the winners. The best for the losing side was Liliane Ingabire with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. The victory was the third consecutive win for GSMRR. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Azomco. RP-IPRC Huye lost their third game in a row. They keep the fourth position with three games lost.

An interesting game was played in Butare where GSMRR (#8) won against host RP-IPRC Huye (#4) 55-49 on Saturday evening. GSMRR held RP-IPRC Huye to an opponent 21.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 30.3 percent accuracy of the winners. GSMRR forced 20 RP-IPRC Huye turnovers. Rachel Gikundiro (169-2006) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 21 rebounds for the winners and guard Marie Yamfashije (-2002) chipped in 19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was Liliane Ingabire (170-2008) with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and point guard Stella Dusingizumuremyi (154-2003) scored 7 points and 12 rebounds. The victory was the third consecutive win for GSMRR. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Azomco. RP-IPRC Huye lost their third game in a row. They keep the fourth position with three games lost.

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Kigali: REG (#2) and EA Univ (#5). REG (7-1) crushed visiting EA Univ (6-4) by 55 points 97-42. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of EA Univ. REG dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to EA Univ's 36 and had 26 for 35 from the free-throw line, while EA Univ only scored three points from the stripe. REG forced 38 EA Univ turnovers and outrebounded them 55-30 including a 25-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. REG players were unselfish on offense dishing 33 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by EA Univ's players. It was a good game for Mali Kadidia Maiga (185-1997) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international point guard Odile Tetero (162-1998) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 9 rebounds, 10 assists and 5 steals for the winners.
