D1 Round 16 (Regular Season): The Hoops are defeated by REG in a derby game

There will be only one (last) round of the Regular Season in D1. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kigali: REG (#2) and The Hoops (#7). REG (12-1) smashed visiting The Hoops (4-7) by 17 points 80-63. REG forced 25 The Hoops turnovers and outrebounded them 44-31 including 30 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard Odile Tetero (162-1998) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and guard Jordan Umuhoza (-1996) who added 11 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. REG's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side the former international center Jane Dusabe (-2005) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. REG have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 12-1 record having just one point less than leader APR. The Hoops at the other side keep the seventh place with seven games lost. REG are looking forward to face Gahini (#8) at home in the next round where they are favorite. The Hoops will have a break next round.

Coach 's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play all 12 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Even a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds by Albright Mugabekazi did not help to save the game for UR BBC. GSMRR have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 9-3 record having just three points less than leader APR. UR BBC at the other side still closes the standings with 14 games lost. GSMRR will play against league's leader APR in Kigali in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. In the last two games of round 16 UR Kigali was destroyed by RP-IPRC Huye on the opponent's court 102-65. EA Univ unfortunately lost to Gahini in a home game 56-69.

Very expected game in Butare where 9th ranked UR Kigali (1-12) was crushed by fifth ranked RP-IPRC Huye (7-5) 102-65. RP-IPRC Huye dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to UR Kigali's 38. RP-IPRC Huye forced 25 UR Kigali turnovers and outrebounded them 50-39 including 20 on the offensive glass. RP-IPRC Huye players were unselfish on offense dishing 35 assists comparing to just 19 passes made by UR Kigali's players. The winners were led by center Santhiana Izere who had that evening a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds and Violette Uwimpuhwe (165-2004) supported her with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Four RP-IPRC Huye players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 13 points and 20 rebounds by Adeline Ihimbazwe did not help to save the game for UR Kigali. Fridaus Umulisa added 23 points for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. RP-IPRC Huye maintains fifth position with 7-5 record. UR Kigali lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 12 games lost. RP-IPRC Huye will play against higher ranked Kepler (#4) in Kigali in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. There was a small surprise in Kigali where eighth ranked Gahini (4-8) defeated 6th ranked EA Univ (5-9) 69-56. Gahini players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. The winners were led by Josiane Ishimwe who scored that evening 25 points and 6 rebounds and Aline Uwimana supported her with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Even 18 points and 5 assists by Gisele Makenga did not help to save the game for EA Univ. Forward Ange Akimana (-1996) added 3 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists for lost side. EA Univ's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Gahini maintains eighth position with 4-8 record. EA Univ at the other side keeps the sixth place with nine games lost. Gahini will play against league's second-placed REG in Kigali in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. EA Univ will have a break next round.
