Rwanda’s U18 girls team brought their U18 FIBA Zone V Africa qualifiers losing streak to an end after beating Kenya 56-47 in the third match held at Lugogo Indoor Stadium, Uganda on Tuesday. The team had lost its two opening games against Uganda and Tanzania before bouncing back to beat Kenya. Their matchup against Kenya was one that went well for the youngsters who have been outstanding from the very beginning, winning the first quarter 21-9, before extending their lead to 38-25 at the break after winning the second quarter 17-16. The third quarter also ended in favour of Rwanda 15-14. Though Kenya managed to win the ultimate final quarter 8-3, it was not enough for them to make a come-back. Brigitte Nibishaka (F-2003) scored 27 points and added 8 rebounds for Rwanda, while Rachel Gikundiro (F) and Vestine Tuyisenge added 8 and 5 points. On Kenya's side, Violet Atieno Okundi scored 15 points. The competition will decide which countries will represent the East African region at the FIBA continental showpiece.
