Japan beat Mali in Sydney at the start of the World Cup 2022. The Asian side posted a comfortable 89-56 win in Group B. Japan started with a 21-18 run and added massive 26-11 surge in the second period. Moreover, they dominated the second half and posted two more victories to secure a win.
Aika Hirashita (177-C-2002) top-scored for the winners with 17 points and Nanako Todo (175-G/F-2000) brought 14. Stephanie Mawuli (182-C-1998) scored 13, while Akaho Himawari (184-C-1998) added 12. Djeneba N'Diaye (165-PG-1997) answered with 13 points in a loss and Sika Kone (190-F/C-2002) had 10.
