Coop Bank retain basketball title - Dec 17, 2012

The Kenya Basketball finals climaxed on Sunday at the Nyayo stadium gymnasium with Cooperative Bank successfully retaining their title after fighting off stiff challenge from USIU Tigers in game 3 of the premier league play offs to win 77-63.
This was the first finals appearance for USIU Tigers who enjoyed a fine season in 2013 having both their men and womens team in the main Premier league finals. The ladies team Flames lost to Eagle Wings who also successfully defended their title with a 2-0 best of three play offs finals.
The two teams Coop and Tigers came to Sundays encounter having each won a match in the first two ties of the series on Wednesday and Saturday and the strength was equal in the first quarter with both teams settling on a 14-14 scoreline.
The second quarter was equally tight and despite showing some moments of individual brilliance including a powerful dunk by Evans Leting, Coop Bank won the second quarter to take a one point lead by half time with the scores being 30-29.
USIU once again exposed weak finishing power like has been the case in the last three matches where they drop their energy levels and concentration in the final two quarters. Coop Bank capitalized on the errors using experience to calmly pick massive points in the 3rd and 4th quarters winning 21-18 and 26-16 respectively to take home the cup for the second year in a row thus relegating Tigers to the waiting bay for their maiden title.
Eugene Genga scored high with 15 points for his team while Ouma managed 12.USIUs Leting was the highest scorer of the day with 20 points while Kevin Macharia had 15.
KCB Lions finished in third place after defeating KPA 88-69 .KPA ladies finished 3rd in the womens category defeating Co-op Banks Kingdom Queens 36-3.
