2025 AfroBasket: Guinea upset South Sudan in opener

Guinea opened win count at the 2025 AfroBasket. They beat South Sudan in Mocamedes. Alpha Diallo (201-F-1997, college: Providence) stepped up with 28 points to pace the winners.
Guinea sank 28 points in the first period to take an 8-point lead. South Sudan cut the deficit at 7-point mark at the interval. But Guinea knocked down 24 points in the third term to boost the gap to double digits. South Sudan could not recover in the final ten minutes as Guinea marched to the win. Mamadi Diakite (206-F-1997, college: Virginia) notched 16 points for Guinea. Nuni Omot (204-SF-1994, college: Baylor) posted 27 points, while Kendale McCullum (185-PG-1996, college: Lewis) and Jo Lual-Acuil (213-C-1994, college: Baylor) posted 16 points each in the loss.
