Navy win another thriller as UG gets pummeled again in ACCRA League- August 12, 2017
Ghana Navy has won another exciting hard fought game in the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Women's Division for the second straight week following a 45-39 win over Tudu Galaxy in the latest round played at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu. A week after beating Fire Service 43-46 in a headline game in the division, Navy wrapped up an impressive start to August with another win this time against former leaders of the division. A seven point at the start of the fourth quarter reduced Tudu Galaxy's deficit to two (36-38) with Selina Quaye and Barbara Amoah draining jump shots. However, Memunatu Mumuni ended the run and spark a Navy run to pull away from Galaxy despite a late three point shot from Amoah. Heading into the fixture, University of Ghana's (UG) Female side was on a bad run that had the team lose heavily to defending champions Braves of Customs. UG lost the first of two matchups against Braves 20-74 before faller further back following a 27-90 loss to the same side. The tertiary team's woes worsened as Fire Service delivered a dominant performance to win 64-11 with the first quarter ending 12-2 for Fire. Fire benefited from UG's poor performance as the side waltzed through the contest with little resistance from the young ladies from Ghana's premier university. Fire Service had several top level performances from its roster but Guard Julianna Cudjor stood out with a shooting exhibition coupled with a couple of eye catching Euro step moves. |
