Navy worsen UG woes as Braves claim first win over Galaxy

Ghana Navy has increased the pressure on University of Ghana (UG) after clinching a 53-26 win over the tertiary side in the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Women's Division games played at the Lebanon House Court a few minutes ago. Navy was joined in the win column by reigning league champions Braves of Customs who beat Tudu Galaxy 44-18 in the final game of the round to earn its first win over the opposition this season. Leading by 19 (39-20) heading into the third quarter, Navy continue to stretch the lead without conceding too many points as UG managed just six points in the final quarter. Memunatu Mumuni and Maria Mensah were the main masterminds in the fourth quarter combining well to spark a five point run that included a three point shot from Mensah. The win marks a good return to action for Navy after missing out of the previous round. UG on the other hand has lost three straight games. Having fallen twice to Tudu Galaxy this season, defending league champions Braves of Customs have responded positively at the third time of trying to wallop Galaxy. Customs made their intentions clear from the start as an aggressive push had the side in a 12-2 lead at the end of the first quarter as Anita Bonney capped off a good performance with a steal before converting a running layup. Barbara Asante led a spirited charge from Galaxy sparking 10 nothing run that whittled Tudu's deficit to four with the score 16-12 with 2:52 remaining in the game. The run was halted as Berlinda Tawiah and Gloria Gyampoh scored late in the quarter. The second half performance from Galaxy was a far cry from what transpired in the second quarter as Galaxy went scoreless as the team trailed 14-34 at the end of the third going on to score just four points en route to losing 18-44.
