Le Mans Sarthe Basket (Betclic ELITE ProA) signed 32-year old Canadian-Eritrean international guard Johnny Berhanemeskel (college: Ottawa)) for upcoming 2025-26 season. Berhanemeskel played last summer at Kazma in Kuwaiti D1 league. He managed to play in three leagues last year. The last season he played at Gravelines Dunkerque in French Betclic ELITE ProA where in 23 games he had 12.8ppg, 2.6rpg and 2.3apg in 2023-24 year. 2023-24 was a great season as he was named to French ProA All-Star Game 3-Point Shootout. Berhanemeskel also played 5 games in FIBA Europe Cup where he recorded 14.6ppg, 3.0rpg, 2.0apg and 1.0spg in 2023-24 year.
He represented Canada at the World University Games in Gwangju (South Korea) ten years ago. His stats at that event were 8 games: 11.1ppg, 1.8rpg, 1.4apg, FGP: 36.0%, 3PT: 39.2%, FT: 78.6%.
Berhanemeskel is quite experienced player. He has played also professionally in Estonia (Tallinn Kalev), Germany (Eisbaeren Bremerhaven), Greece (Larissa BC), Spain (Zaragoza and Araberri), Ukraine (Budivelnyk), France (Chorale de Roanne, JSF Nanterre and Boulazac Basket) and Canada (Blackjacks). Berhanemeskel played in the final of CIS Tournament in 2014 and 2015.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others he was voted to Eurobasket.com Spanish LEB Gold All-Imports Team back in 2017.
He graduated from University of Ottawa in 2015 and it will be his eleventh (!!!) season as a professional player. Berhanemeskel played also for Loyola Hawks for one year.
