Superleague top team - Al Ittihad Al. (9-0) had no problems winning another game on Friday. This time they crushed seventh ranked Zamalek (4-4) in Alexandria 104-84. Al Ittihad Al. looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The former international power forward Mostafa Kejo (204-1994, agency: Diamond Sports) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 21 rebounds for the winners and the former international center Anas Mahmoud (214-1995, college: Louisville) chipped in 22 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side international Khaled Abdelgawad (204-1999) responded with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Al Ittihad Al. have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-0 record. Zamalek at the other side dropped to the ninth position with four games lost.
An interesting game took place in Cairo where 4th placed Al Geish (7-2) was upset on the court of thirteenth ranked Al Shams (3-6) 67-57. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Al Geish. American guard Jervae Robinson (188-1998, college: WSU, agency: BIG) nailed 20 points for the winning side and Omar Ghareeb accounted for 15 points and 5 rebounds. Dahshan Ziad came up with 9 points and 10 rebounds for Al Geish in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Al Shams moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Al Gezira. Al Geish at the other side keeps the fourth position with two games lost.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Cairo: WE Sporting (#8) and Petrojet (#14). Petrojet was defeated at home 79-89 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Mazen Abo Ftouh fired a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Ayman Chawkat produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 assists for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for WE Sporting. They moved-up to sixth place. Petrojet at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the fourteenth position with seven games lost.
There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 13: Al Gezira lost to Al Ahly on the opponent's court 64-70. Smouha managed to outperform Sporting in a home game 71-64. Olympic recorded a loss to Heliopolis on the road 79-73. Damanhour was defeated by Canal on its own court 68-74. Aviation was beaten by Al Zohour in Cairo 63-58.
