Cape Verde closed Round 1 of the AfroBasket 2025 with the win over DR Congo. They posted a 75-66 win at the Pavilhao Multiusos Welwitschia Mirabilis.
Trailing 4 points at the end of the first quarter, DR Congo erupted with an 18-5 surge in the second frame to take a 34-25 advantage. Cape Verde meanwhile dominated the second half with two confident wins to seal the win in their opener.
Williams Tavares (197-G-1995, college: Fordham) top-scored for the winners with 17 points and Walter Tavares (220-C-1992) had 14. Jordan Sakho (207-C-1997) answered with 17 points in the losing effort.
