FAP Yaounde overcame Virunga in the opener

Co-hosts of the Elite 16, Division West, FAP Yaounde had to dig deep into their technical expertise to record an 84-63 win over a talented and stubborn Virunga side from Congo DR. FAP Yaounde started the game with a 25-13 run and added an 18-7 rally in the second period. Virunga was too far to give up nailing 21 points in the third quarter and winning 22-20 rally at the end.
Jalone Friday (206-C-1996, college: NM State) stepped up with 16 points and Etienne Kalume brought 15. Jonathan Nzamba replied with 12 points in the losing effort.
