Mathieu Kamba selected the top Congolese playing abroad in last week's games

We bring you last week's top performances from Congolese who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

Mathieu Kamba

   #1. This week's number one is an international guard Mathieu Kamba (196-95, college: Cent Arkansas, currently plays in Spain). Kamba could not help Oviedo (9-4) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Oviedo was edged 79-78 on the road by the lower-ranked (#10) Melilla. Kamba was the second best scorer with 19 points. He also added 6 rebounds in 36 minutes on the court. It's Kamba's first season with the team. Kamba has relatively good stats this year: 13.6ppg, 4.8rpg, 1.4apg, 2FGP: 44.8%, 3FGP: 37.9% and FT: 64.1% in 13 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: DR Congolese and Canadian. Kamba is currently a member of the DR Congolese senior national team.

Patrick Mwamba

   #2. Second place goes to an international forward Patrick Mwamba (196-99, currently plays college basketball in the States). He led UT Arlington to a victory against the University Louisiana at Lafayette (3-2) 83-73 in the NCAA last Thursday. Mwamba scored 22 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 5 assists. The University of Texas at Arlington has a solid 4-2 conference record this season. Mwamba is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in UT Arlington's roster. This season he has relatively solid stats: 10.2ppg, 4.8rpg, 2.1apg, 1.4spg, 2FGP: 46.7%, 3FGP: 26.8% and FT: 66.7%. Mwamba is in the roster of the DR Congolese senior national team.

Shekinah Munanga

   #3. The DR Congolese player who performed third best last week abroad was former international swingman Shekinah Munanga (201-97, currently plays in France). He was not able to help ALM Evreux in their game against ADA Blois (7-7) in the French ProB (second division). Munanga scored 5 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. The league leader ALM Evreux was defeated 78-72 in Blois by the much lower-ranked ADA Blois (#9). Munanga's overall stats this season are: 8.7ppg, 5.0rpg, 2FGP: 57.6%(38-66), 3FGP: 38.5% and FT: 61.5%. He played for the DR Congolese national team two years ago.

Jonathan Kasibabu

   #4. Forward Jonathan Kasibabu (203-96, college: Fairfield, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for Nantes (0-1) in their last game. Despite Kasibabu's good performance Nantes lost 72-76 in Aix-les-Bains to the higher-ranked (#5) Aix-Maurienne. He recorded 12 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists in 25 minutes. This year Kasibabu averages: 8.0ppg, 5.4rpg and 1.3apg in 14 games. He used to play for the DR Congolese national team back in 2018.

Eric Kibi

   #5. International forward Eric Kibi (198-90, college: ACU, currently plays in Chile) couldn't help Tinguiririca in their last game. Despite his very good performance his team was badly defeated 85-66 at home by the lower-ranked (#4) Los Leones. Kibi was the top scorer with 22 points. He also added 8 rebounds in 37 minutes. This year Kibi's overall stats are: 5.3ppg and 3.3rpg in 15 games. He is another player who holds two passports: DR Congolese and Canadian. Kibi plays currently for the DR Congolese national team.

Chadrack Lufile

   #6. Forward Chadrack Lufile (206-90, agency: BIG, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Romania) contributed to a Miercurea Ciuc's surprising victory against the third-ranked Timisoara (3-1) 72-63 in the Romanian Liga Nationala last Friday. He scored 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. CSM VSKC Miercurea Ciuc (0-2) is placed 13th in the Liga Nationala. Lufile has reliable stats this season: 10.9ppg, 5.6rpg and 1.2apg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior DR Congolese National Team roster.

Jordan Sakho

   #7. International center Jordan Sakho (207-97, agency: BeoBasket, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Breogan (8-7) in their game against Joventut (10-5) in the Spanish Liga Endesa. He cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. Sakho scored only one point. Breogan was edged 90-87 on their home court in Lugo by the higher-ranked Joventut (#3). Sakho's total stats this season are: 3.9ppg and 3.4rpg. He is also DR Congolese national team player.

Herve Kabasele

   #8. Center Herve Kabasele (208-96, currently plays in Spain) is a teammate of previously mentioned Mathieu Kamba and both played together in the last Spanish LEB Gold game. Kabasele couldn't help Oviedo (9-4) in their game against Melilla (7-6). He recorded 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 22 minutes. Oviedo was edged 79-78 on the opponent's court by the lower-ranked (#10) Melilla. This year Kabasele's total stats are: 8.2ppg and 6.0rpg in 10 games. He plays currently for the DR Congolese national team.

Djo Loo Yele

   #9. Former international forward Djo Loo Yele (203-82, currently plays in Norway) managed to help Kongsberg Miners to win against the closely-ranked Gimle BBK (14-3) 86-77 in the Norwegian BLNO on Sunday night. He scored only 4 points. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Kongsberg Miners (10-5) is placed fourth in the BLNO. Loo Yele has averaged so far 4.3ppg and 3.7rpg. He used to play for the DR Congolese national team four years ago.

Carl Ona-Embo

   #10. Point guard Carl Ona-Embo (188-89, currently plays in France) couldn't help Caen (14-4) in their game against C'Chartres (8-5) in the French NM1 (third division). He scored 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. The first-placed Caen (14-4) was defeated 93-86 on their home court in Caen by the lower-ranked C'Chartres (#6) in the Group B. Ona-Embo has averaged so far 4.8ppg, 2.6rpg and 2.2apg. Worth to mention Ona-Embo played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. Despite he played previously for the French U20 national team, Ona-Embo is also a former international player as four years ago he still played for the DR Congolese senior national team.

   #11. Former international center Gullit Mukendi (203-96, agency: Promo Sport ID, currently plays in Spain) was the major contributor in Jairis' victory against the seventh-ranked Carolinas crushing them 90-65 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) in Saturday night's game. He recorded 14 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and made 2 blocks. Mukendi averaged so far 11.3ppg, 6.2rpg and 1.2apg. He used to play for the DR Congolese national team four years ago.


The list of other players, who all have DR Congolese passport but never been selected to any of DR Congolese national teams:

   #1. Experienced Jonathan Kuminga (198-F-2, agency: Verus Management, currently plays in NBA) led Golden State Warriors to a victory over the Chicago Bulls (27-15) crushing them 138-96 in the NBA in Friday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Kuminga scored 25 points and added 3 passes in 26 minutes. The Golden State Warriors have a solid 31-12 record this season. It's Kuminga's first year with the team. This year he averages: 6.6ppg and 2.2rpg in 30 games he played so far.

   #2. Bismack Biyombo (206-PF-92, currently plays in NBA) was the major contributor in a Phoenix Suns' victory against the San Antonio Spurs (16-28) 121-107 in the NBA last Monday. Biyombo recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 14 rebounds. The Phoenix Suns have a very good 33-9 record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Biyombo has relatively good stats this season: 8.5ppg, 6.3rpg and 1.3bpg.

   #3. Wen Boss Mukubu (198-SF-83, college: UAB, currently plays in BNXT-League) could not help Kangoeroes (9-4) in their last game. Despite his good performance Kangoeroes was edged 82-81 on the road by the lower-ranked (#5) Belfius Mons-Hainaut. Mukubu recorded 12 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals in 31 minutes. It was Kangoeroes' first loss after six consecutive victories. His team will play only one more game in the BNXT League Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Mukubu has relatively good stats this year: 10.2ppg, 4.8rpg, 3.2apg and 1.6spg in 13 games. He has a dual citizenship: DR Congolese and Belgian.

   #4. Oscar Tshiebwe (206-PF-99, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to Kentucky's surprising victory against the Vanderbilt University (2-2) 78-66 in the NCAA in Tuesday night's game. Tshiebwe recorded a double-double by scoring 30 points and getting 13 rebounds. The University of Kentucky has 4-1 conference record this season. It's Tshiebwe's first year with the team. He has individually a very good year with high stats. Tshiebwe averages: 16.5ppg, 14.8rpg, 1.4bpg and 1.4spg.

   #5. Nicola Akele (203-F-95, college: URI, currently plays in Italy) was not able to help Treviso (0-0) in their game against Virtus BO in the Italian Serie A. He recorded 7 points and blocked 3 shots in 18 minutes. His team was badly defeated 84-66 in Bologna by the lower-ranked (#3) Virtus BO. This year Akele averages: 8.1ppg and 4.9rpg in 12 games. He is another player who holds two passports: DR Congolese and Italian.

   #6. Charles Kahudi (196-F-86, currently plays in France) contributed to a 1-point ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket's victory against the sixth-ranked Le Mans 81-80 in the French Betclic ELITE ProA on Sunday night. Kahudi recorded 8 points. This season Kahudi averages: 7.5ppg and 2.0rpg. He has both DR Congolese and French nationalities.

   #7. Kalongi Patrick (206-C-99, currently plays in Japan) contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Shinagawa crushing them 85-58 in the Japanese B3 League on Saturday night. He recorded 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in a mere 15 minutes. This year Patrick averages: 9.3ppg, 6.6rpg and 1.1spg in seven games.

   #8. Viny Okouo (214-C-97, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Obradoiro in their game against Bilbao in the Spanish Liga Endesa. Okouo scored only 4 points. His team was defeated 96-91. Okouo's overall stats this season are: 5.3ppg and 3.3rpg.

   #9. Isaac Mushila (196-F, currently studies in the States) contributed to an easy victory against the The University of Incarnate Word 80-64 in the NCAA on Saturday night. Mushila recorded 13 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 22 minutes. Mushila's stats this year are: 14.4ppg, 8.3rpg, 1.4apg and 1.1spg in 17 games.

   #10. Eliel Nsoseme (203-F-97, is currently at the American university) couldn't help the Georgia St. in their game against the University of South Alabama in the NCAA. Despite his good performance on Thursday night Nsoseme scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Nsoseme has averaged so far 10.0ppg, 5.5rpg, 1.5apg and 1.5bpg.
