Ivan Almeida (ex Galitos-Barreiro) agreed terms with GTK

Tauron GTK Gliwice (OBL) signed 36-year-old Cape Verdean-Portuguese small forward Ivan Almeida (college: Stonehill). He began the season at Galitos-Barreiro in Portuguese Liga Betclic. In three games, he averaged 14.0ppg, 5.7rpg, 6.3apg, and 3.0spg. Last season, he played for Al Ahly Tripoli (D1) in the Libyan league. He also participated in 5 games in the Arab Club Championships, where he ranked fifth in scoring with 12.2ppg, along with 4.8rpg, 1.8apg, and 1.4spg.
Almeida represented Cape Verde at the FIBA World Cup in Philippines-Japan-Indonesia three years ago. During this event, he scored an average of 11.6 points per game and had 4.4 rebounds per game.
He is a very experienced player. Almeida has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to ten different countries on three different continents (Europe, Africa and of course North America). He has played professionally in France (Cholet Basket, Chorale de Roanne and Lille), Israel (Ironi Nahariya), Italy (Brindisi, Juvi Cremona and Treviso), Latvia, Poland (Anwil), Estonia (Kalev/Cramo), Czech Republic (Nymburk), The Basketball Tournament (The Cru) and Cape Verde (Kriol Star).
Among many awards, his team won the Portuguese Hugo dos Santos Cup in 2024. Almeida was voted to Afrobasket.com All-FIBA Afrobasket Honorable Mention in 2025. It may be one of the last seasons in his extensive career, which he may end at GTK.
He graduated from Stonehill College in 2012 and is currently in his 14th season in pro basketball. Almeida also played for Mohawk Valley Community College for one year.
