Ivan Almeida (ex Sporting) is a second import added to the roster of Ahly Tripoli

Al Ahly Tripoli (D1) strengthened their roster with addition of experienced 35-year old Cape Verdean-Portuguese 197cm small forward Ivan Almeida (college: Stonehill). He is the second foreign player in the roster as U.S. Virgin Islands Walter Hodge signed here earlier.
He moved there from Sporting in Portuguese Liga Betclic where he played this season. The last season he played at another Portuguese team Sport Lisboa Benfica (also in Liga Betclic). In 24 games he recorded 10.2ppg, 4.0rpg, 2.3apg and 1.4spg. He helped them to win the league title (twice) and the Supercup. Great season indeed as he was voted to Eurobasket.com All-Portuguese Liga Betclic Honorable Mention and League Player of the Week. He also played 9 games in Basketball Champions League where he averaged 10.3ppg, 3.6rpg, 2.6apg and 1.2spg. Good season as he was also here selected League Player of the Week.
Almeida represented Cape Verde at the FIBA World Cup in Philippines-Japan-Indonesia last year. During this event he scored an average of 11.6 points per game and had 4.4 rebounds per game.
He is a very experienced player. Almeida has played also professionally in France (Cholet Basket, Chorale de Roanne and Lille), Israel (Ironi Nahariya), Italy (Treviso), Latvia, Poland (Anwil), Estonia (Kalev/Cramo), Czech Republic (Nymburk) and The Basketball Tournament (The Cru).
Among many awards he was voted Eurobasket.com All-Polish League Forward of the Year back in 2019.
He graduated from Stonehill College in 2012 and it is his 13th (hopefully lucky) (!!!) season in pro basketball. Almeida played also for Mohawk Valley Community College for one year.
