D1 Round 20 (Regular Season): Nadi Basket beat USM Alger by two after a very close game

Seventh-ranked USM Alger (11-9) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked Nadi Basket (16-4) on Tuesday. The visitors from Staoueli managed to secure only two-point victory 69-67. However their fans expected much easier game. 25 personal fouls committed by USM Alger helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international guard Anis Fedala (185-1990) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points and 6 assists. Mohamed Bensalah (200-2002, college: Paul Quinn) contributed with 11 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Nadi Basket's coach Mohamed Yahya used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Guard Ahmed Boutiba (188-1995) replied with 27 points and 6 rebounds for USM Alger. Nadi Basket have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 16-4 record. USM Alger at the other side keeps the seventh place with nine games lost. They share the position with USM Blida.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Chabab Sportif (13-6) against fifth ranked Rouiba (12-8) on Tuesday night. Visiting Chabab Sportif was defeated by Rouiba in a tough game in Rouiba 79-83. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Chabab Sportif. Worth to mention a great performance of Ziad Chenieff (194-2001) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds and Nacereddine Sahraoui who added 19 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. Yacine Benyahya responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. Rouiba moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Mouloudia and CR Beni Saf. Chabab Sportif at the other side keeps the third position with six games lost.

D1 top team - Nadi Basket (16-4) had no problems winning another game on Friday. This time they beat eleventh ranked Taradji Amel (8-12) in Draria 87-70. Nadi Basket dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Taradji Amel's 26. Nadi Basket forced 20 Taradji Amel turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The winners were led by the former international forward Abderraouf Benrighi (202-1996) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and the former international guard Hichem Dekakene (190-1997) supported him with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Four Nadi Basket players scored in double figures. Even 17 points and 6 rebounds by the former international center Abdellah Hamdini (202-1992) did not help to save the game for Taradji Amel. Strangely Chabab Sportif outrebounded Rouiba 52-38 including a 18-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Rouiba players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Mouloudia outrebounded US Setif 58-34 including a 44-24 advantage in defensive rebounds.
