Cape Verde overcame Algeria in the classification round of AfroBasket today. Cape Verde will now take on Kenya for the ninth overall position. Jade Leitao (180-F/C-83, college: Fordham) stepped up with 21 points for the winners.
Cape Verde snatched an 11:10 lead after the opening quarter. They boosted the gap in the second frame. Cape Verde limited their opponents to just 7 points in the second term to open a 4-point halftime advantage 21:17. Cape Verde fired 22 points in the third term to secure a comfortable 15-point lead heading into the fourth frame. Cape Verde added 22 points in the final stanza to seal the winning outcome. Ornela Livramento (178-G-90) had 10 points and 9 rebounds, while Vandell Andrade (181-F-93) had 9 points and 11 rebounds in the victory. Nadia Isli (83) responded with 11 points for Algeria. Wahiba Aissani (170-F-79) had 15 points and 8 rebounds in the defeat.
