Egypt crowned champions in Cairo

Egypt are crowned African U16 champions in Cairo tonight. Seifeldin Hendawy (197-F-05) converted a jumper with 17 seconds left in regulation to propel Egypt to a narrow win over Mali in the championship game tonight. Mali recorded a 33-30 halftime lead. But Egypt denied the deficit and grabbed a 3-point lead at the final break. Mali regained the advantage late in the game before Seifeldin Hendawy stole the win for the home side. Hassan Amer (188-SF-05) and Seifeldin Hendawy provided 15 points each for Egypt. Malick Diallo (05) replied with 17 points, 19 rebounds and 5 assists for Mali.

3-4 Place

Chad - Algeria 50-65
Algeria claimed Bronze medals in Cairo. They overcame Chad in the consolation final at the championship. Algeria got to a quick start as they built a 23-8 lead ten minutes into the game. They extended the margin at 17-point mark at the big break. Chad narrowed the distance at 8 points heading into the fourth quarter. But Algeria held them to 10 points in the final stanza and raced to the win. Zakariya Khodja (182-G-05) delivered 19 points, while Zakaria Abdelouahad (202-C-05) had 11 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Caleb Andigue (05) answered with 25 points and 10 rebounds for Chad.
