Group A

Cape Verde - Nigeria 39-64
Nigeria stormed past Cape Verde to celebrate the first win at the tournament. Rueben Chinyelu (203-F-03) accounted for 20 points and 21 rebounds to pace the winners. James Okemirie (201-F-04) added 12 points and 19 rebounds for Nigeria. Cape Verde responded with 10 points and 10 rebounds from Hugo Silva (03).

Egypt - Angola 86-61
Egypt cruised past Angola for the second straight win in Cape Verde. Angola led by two points at halftime 36:34. But Egypt used a massive 52:25 second half rally to ice the victory. Moamen Abouzeid (186-G-03) produced 23 points, while Abdullah Ahmed (205-C-03) added 19 points and 22 rebounds for Egypt. Aloisio Andrade (200-C-04) replied with 12 points for Angola.

Group B

Ivory Coast - Rwanda 60-62
Rwanda snatched a narrow win over Ivory Coast to gain the first win in Group B. Dick Sano (04) came up with 16 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Pacifique Mutabazi (03) added 11 points for Rwanda. Assemian Moulare (03) tossed in 27 points for Ivory Coast.

Guinea - Tunisia 63-57
Guinea topped Tunisia for the second straight win in Cape Verde. Tunisia jumped to a 33:26 halftime lead. But Guinea went on a 21:10 run in the fourth stanza to seal the win. Rene Soufane (175-SG-03) and Kabinet Kaba (198-F-03) accounted for 10 points each for Guinea.
