Egypt defended Gold medal at the U16 AfroBasket 2011. The host of this
event cruised past Tunisia 117-67 in the Big Final. Thanks to this win,
Egypt also booked a ticket for the FIBA U17 World Championship 2012 in
Lithuania. Egypt took control on Tunisia from the beginning. Already at
the halftime Egypt was 53-31 up. Nothing has changed after the breather
and Egypt cruised to 117-67 victory at the end. Of course, second place
belongs to Tunisia.
In the battle for Bronze, Mali grabbed 59-57 thriller win against
Angola. Fifth place at this event belongs to Algeria, who was better
than Mozambique 55-54. It was another exciting meeting in the last day
of competition. Congo-Brazzaville avoided last place at this event
thanks to 66-60 win against South Africa.
Egypt and Tunisia to meet in the Finals - Jul 16, 2011
Egypt and Tunisia advanced to the Big Final of U16 AfroBasket. They will
fight for the Gold today at 18h.
Egypt eliminated Angola in the Semifinal. It was a 106-41 blowout win
for the host of this event. Egypt took control on Angola from the very
beginning and never looked back after that. Thay dominated in all
basketball elements and celebrated huge victory at the end. Angola will
play for the Bronze against Mali.
Tunisia had to work very hard in order to beat Mali in the Semis. They
registered tiny 51-49 victory.
In the Classification Games from 5th to 8th place, Algeria cruised past
Congo-Brazaville 68-50. In the other game, Mozambique handed 69-61 loss
to South Africa. It means that Algeria and Mozambique will meet today in
the game for fifth place. Congo-Brazaville and South Africa will meet
each other and the winner will avoid last place in Egypt.

Semifinals - Jul 15, 2011
Egypt, Tunisia, Mali and Angola advanced to Semifinals of the U16
AfroBasket in Egypt.
Egypt destroyed Congo-Brazzaville in the Quarterfinals 128-33. It was
their fourth straight win at this event. The hosts dominated from the
very beginning and they reached amazing 71-11 at the halftime. Of
course, all after that was just the formality and Egypt ended this
meeting with huge 128-33. In the Semifinals, Egypt will meet Angola.
Tunisia also had an easy job in the Quarterfinals. They handed 80-38
loss to South Africa to reach the Semis. Tunisia will meet Mali at the
next stage.
Mali had to work very hard to eliminate Mozambique in the QFinals.
Malians celebrated 47-44 win yesterday. First quarter was tied at 24-24,
but Mali improved after the breather and created 19-8 in Q3. However,
Mozambique made them big troubles in the last period but at the end was
not able to make a turn. Makan Coulibaly had no mercy from the FT line
in the finish and brought Mali 3-point win.
Angola celebrated 66-52 win against Algeria to eliminate them.
Day Three: Quarterfinals are set - Jul 13, 2011
Preliminary Round of U16 AfroBasket in Egypt is over.
Egypt is the winner of Group A with perfect 3-0 record. In Day Three of
the championship, the hosts outplayed South Africa 101-57, despite they
already secured first place in this pool even before this meeting. Egypt
will meet Congo in the Quarterfinals. On the other side, South Africa
(1-2) finished as the last ranked team of Group A and will meet Tunisia
in the QFinals.
Also in Group A, Mozambique was too strong for Algeria yesterday 69-65.
Ubisse was the leading player in victory with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
Ahmed Boutiba replied with 23 pts and 7 boards in loss. Thanks to this
win Mozambique (1-2) ended as No.2 of Group A, while is Algeria (1-2) is
No.3. In the Quarterfinals, Mozambique will play against Angola. Algeria
will meet Mali.
Tunisia is the winner of Group B with perfect 3-0 record. They grabbed
53-51 OT win against Mali yesterday for their third straight win.
Haythem Saada stepped up for the winners with 15 points and 19 rebounds.
Cheick Diallo replied with 13 pts and 20 rebs in loss. Tunisia will meet
South Africa in the Quarterfinals, while Mali (2-1, No.2) will take on
Algeria.
Angola celebrated their first win in Egypt and avoided last place in
Group B. They handed 57-51 loss to Congo mostly owing to Jose Kipanda,
who came up with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Francis Mbemba 20 pts and 10
boards in defeat. His Congo ended this stage winless. Angola will meet
Mozambique in the Quarterfinals, while Congo will meet host Egypt.
U16 AfroBasket: Day Two in Egypt

Four games were played in Day Two of the U16 AfroBasket in Egypt.
In Group A, Egypt was too strong for Algeria handing them 94-57 loss. It
means that the host of this event jumped to 2-0 record in Preliminary
Group A. On the other side, Algeria faced with the first loss (1-1).
Second quarter was the crucial one in this meeting as Egypt won it 28-8.
They had 46-23 at the HT and all after that was just the formality.
Also in Group A, South Africa grabbed 59-58 thriller win against
Mozambique. Both teams failed in Day One so this is the first win for
South Africans. Henry Williams was a key player for the winners with 30
points and 9 rebounds. Helton Ubisse collected 25 pts and 8 boards in
loss.
In Group B, Mali destroyed Congo 71-43 for perfect 2-0 score. Cheick
Diallo stepped up for the winners with 23 points and 18 rebounds.
Malians during this game was never been afraid. Thanks to good
collective offenses and defenses actions, they controlled the game until
its end.
In the last game of the day, Tunisia celebrated 64-60 win against Angola
also for 2-0. On the other side, Angola dropped to 0-2 in Group B.
Haythem Saada had double-double of 10 points and 19 rebounds for the
winners. Tunisia sealed the victory in the last two minutes.
U16 AfroBasket: Day One in Egypt

AfroBasket started on Friday in Egypt. The host of this even had a
joyful Day One registering 108-54 victory against Mozambique (Group A).
Egypt dominated from the early beginning and was just extending their
lead from period to period. They made 33-15 in the first ten minutes and
continued with 19-16 until the halftime. Nothing has changed after the
breather as Egypt won Q3 with 24-10. They closed this meeting with 32-13
for the final 108-54 blowout. Ehab Saleh top-scored for the winners with
32 points. In the loosing squad, Helton Ubisse shined with 22 points and
15 rebounds.
Also in Day One, Algeria was too strong for South Africa 69-66 (Group
A). In Group B, Tunisia blasted Congo 72-40, while Mali was better than
Angola 53-45.
