Strasbourg sign Vitalis Chikoko

Vitalis Chikoko

SIG Strasbourg (Betclic ELITE ProA) has signed 33-year-old Zimbabwean international 208cm power forward Vitalis Chikoko for the new season. He is the second import player on the roster, with Croatian Filip Kruslin having signed earlier. Chikoko is a well-known player in the French Betclic ELITE ProA, having been the top scorer at JDA Dijon Bourgogne. Last season, he averaged 9.3ppg, 3.8rpg, and 1.4apg in 29 games, and in 9 Basketball Champions League games, he had 9.1ppg, 3.7rpg, and 1.0apg. Prior to joining SIG Strasbourg, Chikoko played for Pau Lacq Orthez for two seasons (2021-23).
He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2013.
Chikoko also represented Zimbabwe at the Afrobasket Championship in Rades (Tunisia) nine years ago. During this event he scored an average of 13.4 ppg and had 8.8 rpg.
He has also played professionally in Germany (Gladiators, BG Goettingen, Bayern Muenchen, and ASC 46 Goettingen) and Italy (Reggio Emilia and Verona).
Chikoko's team reached the League Semifinals in 2022. He won Eurobasket.com All-French ProA Player of the Year and Eurobasket.com All-French ProA Center of the Year in 2020.
