Toyama Grouses (B1 League) signed 30-year old Zimbabwean forward Julian Mavunga (203-116kg-90, college: Miami, OH, agency: Pensack Sports). He played last season at Kyoto Hannaryz. In 34 B1 League games in Japan he had very impressive stats: 19.4ppg, 6.8rpg, 8.7apg and 1.1spg. Great season as he was named to Asia-Basket.com All-Japanese B League Honorable Mention and League Player of the Week (4 times).
The previous (2019) summer Mavunga played at Fort Wayne Champs in U.S. semi-pro league The Basketball Tournament.
He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2013. Mavunga was a member of Zimbabwean Senior National Team between 2015 and 2017.
He is quite experienced player. Mavunga has played in six different countries on three different continents (Europe, Asia and of course North America). He has played previously professionally in Israel (Ironi Nahariya), Italy, Kosovo (Prishtina), Ukraine (Hoverla) and NBA G League (Maine Red Claws).
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Mavunga's team was regular season runner-up in Japanese B League West Division in 2018. He was also voted NABC Division I All-District 14 1st Team back in 2012 at his college time.
Mavunga attended Miami University until 2012 and it will be his ninth season as a professional player.
