As the National Champs draw near we reflect on the recently ended Qualifiers held in Harare and Bulawayo. Split into two Zones, we saw Zone 1 games played in Harare between Men and Women's team from Harare, Mashonaland East and Manicaland. Zone 2 showcased teams from Bulawayo, the Midlands and Masvingo do battle in Bulawayo.

In a jam packed weekend in Harare, we saw teams meeting at Richwood, University of Zimbabwe and Harare City Sports Centre for a series of pool match-ups that culminated in an exciting finale on Sunday afternoon. Third and Fourth play offs on the ladies side saw a young but consistent Green Stars team play against Raiders. On the men's side JBC played against Hustlers. The finals were no disappointment on either the ladies or men's section where both games ended in close finishes with Harare City Hornets and the Vixens-Foxes franchises featuring in both finals.

The ladies final saw Vixens clinch the win in a nail biting 44-43 finish with just a point differential. Alex Maseko led all scorers with 14 points and 8 Rebounds. The men's final saw Harare City Hornets outlast Foxes with a final score of 49-47. Tatenda Tswatswa led all scorers with 20points and 6 Rebounds.

In Bulawayo, the games were played at Khanyisile Sports Centre and Evelyn Girls High School. In the finals, the ever heated match up of Mavericks and Lakers served up a final for the ages. Mavericks over came a spirited performance by an energised Lakers team 50-45. In the Mens category, Mavericks faced their age old nemesis Giants. Giants jumped off to an early lead and managed to withstand a second half rally by Mavericks to win 56-55.

Congratulations to all teams and stakeholders that participated and facilitated the successful completion of the qualifiers. As preparations ramp up for Mutare, the National Championships this weekend are sure to be a weekend not to be missed!
