SRC Step Up National Youth Games Preps- June 4, 2016HOSTS for this year's National Youth Games, Mashonaland West, have stepped up their preparations for the annual sports showcase scheduled for August with renovations underway at some of the facilities to be used during the event. The Games are pencilled to run from August 13 to 20 in Chinhoyi with all provinces expected to take part. Participants will compete in eight sport disciplines - athletics, basketball, boxing, football, handball, netball, volleyball and tennis at various venues. Most of the events are expected to be staged at Chinhoyi University of Technology and Chinhoyi High School. Athletics will be at Alaska mine and Lomagundi College hosts basketball. The Youth in Sport Leadership Development camp will be held at Sinoa Primary School. Sports Commission corporate communications officer, Tirivashe Nheweyembwa, said preparations have begun and they are looking forward to the Games. "As the custodians of the Games (Sports and Recreation Commission) we are generally satisfied with the work that has been done by Mashonaland West Local Organising Committee and we hope that the Games will run smoothly without hiccups. "We also further note that the success of the Games does not hinge on the preparations put in place by the local organising committee alone, rather the participating provinces are also expected to play their role by paying the participation fees in time", said Nheweyembwa. |
