Ladies Basketball Team Off to a Good Start

The Zambia ladies basketball team yesterday got off to a good start when they humiliated Zimbabwe 62-28 at the ongoing three-day Tri-nations Youth tournament at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (YDC) in Lusaka.

The competition that started on Thursday and is expected to end today; has attracted teams from Malawi, Zimbabwe and host nation, Zambia is featuring netball, basketball, chess, athletics, hockey and football among the disciplines.

In the netball category, Zimbabwe defeated Zambia 66-6 in the first game and 43-37 in the other fixture of the day while the Zambia men's football team lost 1-4 to Zimbabwe in the only game played by press time.

In the tennis singles, Zambia lost to Zimbabwe while hockey that has only Zambian teams saw Striking Tigers draw with Black Leopards in a scoreless margin and Sweet Angels, the only girls' team also recorded the same results with Lions.

Black Leopards beat Sweet Angels 6-0 in the other game and Striking Tigers beat lions 3-0 with Tigers beating Sweet Angels 2-0 in another fixture and Black Leopards nailed Lions 7-0.

The tournament ends today and Zambia Universities and Colleges Sports Federation (ZUCSF) president Jani Muyunda said the games would help create partnerships among the three countries during the competition.
