Aiming to make an impact at the upcoming FIBA Africa Basketball League (FIBA ABL), Ferroviario da Beira have signed three new international players.
Uganda international Robinson Odoch (190-G/F-89, college: Rogers St.) - a prolific three-point shooter - is joined by Serbian duo Bozo Djumic (208-C/F-92) and Vuk Jovanovic (183-PG-95).
Twenty-seven years-old Djumic is described as 6ft10in (2.09m) center who has spent most of his career in his native Serbia, and has had stints in Slovenia.
"Hopefully they will bring quality and experience to the group, and help us reach higher heights," said Ferroviario da Beira power forward Helton Ubisse in an interview with FIBA.basketball.
The Mozambicans have been drawn in this year's FIBA ABL's Group C, where they will go up against African heavyweights Al Ahly of Egypt, Primeiro D'Agosto of Angola and REG from Rwanda from 8-10 February in the Egyptian capital of Cairo.
After claiming a sixth-place in the FIBA Africa Champions Cup 2017 (ACC), which has since been rebranded as FIBA ABL - The Locomotives Beira look ambitious this time around.
They qualified to the FIBA ABL Final Round after finishing third in FIBA Africa Zone 6 qualifiers last month in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
"D'Agosto is too tough to play against, we faced them in the qualifiers, but they aren't unbeatable," Ubisse said.
"Al Alhy will be playing at home, have experienced players, won the FIBA ABL title in 2016. It will be a highly contested game and more difficult than D'Agosto.]
"As for REG, we don't know much about them, but we can't underestimate them."
Ubisse continued: "It's a tough competition with many experienced players. Teams must be mentally and physically prepared. You can win the competition today and finish in the sixth place tomorrow. That's how hard it is."
The Mozambicans will begin their FIBA ABL campaign taking on Rwanda's REG on 8 February.

Oilers targeting unbeaten run - 4 days ago
In winning six straight league titles, City Oilers have pretty much achieved everything that is there to win in National Basketball League. But as they chase an unprecedented seventh league crown that will see them edge ahead of Falcons, they also want to do it in a more attractive manner. 'The wins are important, but the way that we play is also as important. We want to play the right way,' City Oilers captain Jimmy Enabu (187-PG-88) noted after his side's 83-79 win over KIU Titans on Fr...   [read more]
