NBL Round 17: JKL Dolphins are defeated by Pemba Warriors in a derby game - Aug 26, 2018

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kampala: Pemba Warriors (#4) and JKL Dolphins (#7). Pemba Warriors (12-9) won against visiting JKL Dolphins (10-11) 58-46. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of JKL Dolphins. Pemba Warriors forced 26 JKL Dolphins turnovers and outrebounded them 45-28 including 31 on the defensive glass. Guard Mark Opiyo (-90) stepped up and scored 12 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and international guard Syrus Kiviiri (-88) chipped in 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Ferdinand Odama (-95) responded with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pemba Warriors maintains fourth place with 12-9 record. JKL Dolphins at the other side keep the seventh position with 11 games lost.

It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of KIU Titans. International center Ivan Lumanyika (205-92) nailed a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side and Makala Libe accounted for 22 points and 5 rebounds. JKL Dolphins' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. DR Congolese forward Denis Balungu (-95) came up with 19 points and 5 rebounds for KIU Titans in the defeat. JKL Dolphins maintains seventh place with 10-11 record. KIU Titans at the other side dropped to the third position with five games lost.
Third ranked City Oilers (17-4) beat at home 5th ranked Ndejje Angels (11-11) by 15 points 69-54, which is the biggest margin this round on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Ndejje Angels. The best player for the winners was James Okello who scored 23 points and 8 rebounds. Innocent Ochera produced 12 points for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. City Oilers have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Loser Ndejje Angels dropped to the sixth position with 11 games lost.

In the last two games of round 17 UCU Canons won against UPDF on the opponent's court 82-72. Pemba Warriors unfortunately lost to Ndejje Angels in a home game 66-70.

Third ranked City Oilers (17-4) beat at home 5th ranked Ndejje Angels (11-11) by 15 points 69-54, which is the biggest margin this round on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Ndejje Angels. They outrebounded Ndejje Angels 45-34 including 31 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international James Okello (194-90) who scored 23 points and 8 rebounds. Burundian forward Landry Ndikumana (198-95) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Innocent Ochera (-97) produced 12 points and forward Gauthier Baderha added 10 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. City Oilers have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Loser Ndejje Angels dropped to the sixth position with 11 games lost.

Very expected game when 11th ranked UPDF (5-17) was defeated at home by sixth ranked UCU Canons (11-8) 82-72 on Saturday. UCU Canons made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was forward David Kongor who scored 16 points and 6 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Tanzanian forward Fadhili Chuma (-95) chipped in 10 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Four UCU Canons players scored in double figures. Felix Mukunzi (193) produced 28 points and 9 rebounds and center Moses Muhumuza added 17 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. UCU Canons moved-up to fifth place. Loser UPDF dropped to the bottom position with 17 games lost. They share it with Charging Rhinos.

Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Kampala: JKL Dolphins (#7) and KIU Titans (#2). JKL Dolphins (10-11) won against visiting KIU Titans (17-5) 83-71. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of KIU Titans. JKL Dolphins dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to KIU Titans' 26. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. International center Ivan Lumanyika (205-92) nailed a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side and forward Makala Libe (-95) accounted for 22 points and 5 rebounds. JKL Dolphins' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. DR Congolese forward Denis Balungu (-95) came up with 19 points and 5 rebounds and DR Congolese guard Micheal Bwanga added 14 points and 4 assists respectively for KIU Titans in the defeat. We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Kampala where fifth ranked Ndejje Angels (11-11) defeated 4th placed Pemba Warriors (12-9) 70-66 on Friday. Ndejje Angels forced 25 Pemba Warriors turnovers and outrebounded them 41-30 including 16 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was forward Derrick Katumba (194-93) who scored 7 points and 17 rebounds. Forward Gauthier Baderha chipped in 15 points and 5 assists. DR Congolese power forward Amisi Saidi (-87) produced 9 points and 8 rebounds and Kenyan guard Micheal Otieno (193-93) added 12 points respectively for the hosts. Pemba Warriors' coach Ronald Mutebi rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Ndejje Angels have a solid series of three victories in a row. Despite that victory Ndejje Angels went down to sixth position due to points difference. Loser Pemba Warriors keep the fourth place with nine games lost.
