NBL Round 13: UCU Canons beat Ndejje by three after a very close game - Aug 9, 2018

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 8th ranked Ndejje (7-9) to fifth ranked UCU Canons (9-7) 62-59 on Sunday evening. UCU Canons outrebounded Ndejje 39-28 including 28 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of Tanzanian forward Fadhili Chuma (-95) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Center Derrick Isiko (-97) contributed with 19 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Forward Derrick Katumba (194-93) answered with 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for Ndejje. Ndejje's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. UCU Canons have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Pemba Warriors. Ndejje lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with nine games lost. They share it with Our Saviour. UCU Canons will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ndejje will play against Our Saviour (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
NBL top team - Betway Power (17-3) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed twelfth ranked UPDF (4-15) 85-53. Center Sulaiman Bbaale (-95) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and J Anin chipped in 14 points. At the losing side forward Henry Okoth (-99) responded with 15 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Betway Power have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 17-3 record. UPDF lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Betway Power will play against Pemba Warriors (#4) in Kampala in the next round. UPDF will play at home against City Oilers (#3) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Other games in round 13 were not that significant. City Oilers beat KCC Lions on the road 73-63. JKL Dolphins destroyed Charging Rhinos on its own court 84-63. Our Saviour unfortunately lost to Sharing Youth in a road game 51-57.

KCC Lions - City Oilers 63-73

No shocking result in a game when third ranked City Oilers (14-4) beat on the road 10th ranked KCC Lions (6-13) 73-63. They outrebounded KCC Lions 45-31 including 33 on the defensive glass. City Oilers players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The former international James Okello (194-90) stepped up and scored 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and Burundian forward Landry Ndikumana (198-95) chipped in 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side American guard Brian Waters (188-85, college: Elon) responded with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Andrew Gang (-96) scored 10 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains third place with 14-4 record having five points less than leader Betway Power. Newly promoted KCC Lions keep the tenth position with 13 games lost. City Oilers' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Kampala to the arena Charging Rhinos.

At the losing side forward Henry Okoth (-99) responded with 15 points and R Bukenya scored 12 points. JKL Dolphins - Charging Rhinos 84-63

Very expected game when 11th ranked Charging Rhinos (5-15) were smashed on the road by sixth ranked JKL Dolphins (9-10) 84-63. JKL Dolphins dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Charging Rhinos' 40. They outrebounded Charging Rhinos 45-34 including 31 on the defensive glass. JKL Dolphins brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Rwandan point guard Yesman Bushiri stepped up and scored 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and forward Brian Namake (-90) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. Four JKL Dolphins players scored in double figures. At the losing side forward Abel Omomgin (-89) responded with 20 points and 5 rebounds and Abraham Isiagi scored 15 points and 7 rebounds. Charging Rhinos' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. JKL Dolphins maintains sixth place with 9-10 record. Newly promoted Charging Rhinos keep the eleventh position with 15 games lost. JKL Dolphins will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Charging Rhinos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kampala City Oilers.

They outrebounded Our Saviour 39-26 including 30 on the defensive glass. Forward Caesar Kizito (-88) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and forward Emmanuel Okumu (-97) chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds. Sharing Youth's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side center Brian Ssentongo (-87) responded with 10 points and 6 rebounds and guard Joseph Wacha (-91) scored 12 points and 4 steals. Four Our Saviour players scored in double figures. Sharing Youth maintains ninth place with 7-11 record. Our Saviour at the other side keeps the seventh position with nine games lost. They share it with Ndejje. Sharing Youth will play against higher ranked Pemba Warriors (#4) in Kampala in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Our Saviour will play against Ndejje and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
