NBL Round 11: Pemba Warriors are defeated by City Oilers in a derby game - Jul 30, 2018

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kampala: City Oilers (#2) and Pemba Warriors (#4). City Oilers (13-3) won against visiting Pemba Warriors (9-6) 83-77. 28 personal fouls committed by Pemba Warriors helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for Burundian forward Landry Ndikumana (198-95) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 17 rebounds. Brian Muramba helped adding 17 points and 4 steals. Forward Amisi Saidi (-87) responded with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Pemba Warriors' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. City Oilers have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 13-3 record having 2 victories less than leader Betway Power. Pemba Warriors at the other side keep the fourth position with six games lost.
Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Kampala: KIU Titans (#3) and Pemba Warriors (#4). Pemba Warriors were crushed at home by 22 points 60-82 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It was an exceptional evening for guard Chris Omanye (183-94) who led the winners and scored 13 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Sudi Ulanga accounted for 16 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Amisi Saidi (-87) came up with 12 points and 9 rebounds for Pemba Warriors in the defeat. Pemba Warriors' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for KIU Titans. They maintain third place with 13-4 record having just three points less than leader Betway Power. Pemba Warriors at the other side keep the fourth position with six games lost.

Francis Kasinde orchestrated the victory by scoring 8 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Betway Power. They maintain first place with 15-3 record. Charging Rhinos lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keep the eleventh position with 13 games lost.
The game in was also quite interesting. 5th ranked JKL Dolphins (8-9) played at the court of sixth ranked UCU Canons (8-7). UCU Canons managed to secure a 9-point victory 53-44 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of JKL Dolphins. It was a great evening for David Kongor who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for UCU Canons. They moved-up to fifth place. Loser JKL Dolphins dropped to the sixth position with nine games lost.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 11: Sharing Youth lost to City Oilers on the opponent's court 64-77. Our Saviour outscored UPDF in a home game 74-42. Bottom-ranked UPDF was rolled over KIU Titans on the road 102-72. Ndejje was defeated by JKL Dolphins on its own court 54-60.



Betway Power - Ndejje 85-71

NBL top team - Betway Power (15-3) managed to deliver another win on Sunday. This time they beat eighth ranked Ndejje (7-8) 85-71. Betway Power forced 23 Ndejje turnovers and outrebounded them 46-30 including 21 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Ndejje's players. The best player for the winners was Geofrey Soro who scored 15 points and 7 rebounds. Center Sulaiman Bbaale (-95) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Derrick Katumba (194-93) produced 12 points and 8 rebounds and guard Innocent Ochera (-97) added 17 points and 4 steals respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Betway Power. They maintain first place with 15-3 record. Loser Ndejje keeps the eighth position with eight games lost.

Very expected game in Kampala where 9th ranked Sharing Youth (6-11) was defeated by second ranked City Oilers (13-3) 77-64 on Saturday. City Oilers looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for Brian Muramba who led his team to a victory scoring 15 points and 9 rebounds. The former international guard Jonah Otim (193-94) helped adding 9 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Center Stephan Otoa (-91) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and Francis Nitus scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. Sharing Youth's coach let to play twelve players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for City Oilers. Defending champion maintains second place with 13-3 record having 2 victories less than leader Betway Power. Sharing Youth lost their third game in a row. They keep the ninth position with 11 games lost.

Forward Francis Kasinde (-91) orchestrated the victory by scoring 8 points and 10 rebounds. Athiu Madol contributed with 12 points for the winners. The former international center Sam Gombya (213-89) answered with 8 points and 15 rebounds and Abraham Isiagi added 7 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Charging Rhinos. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Betway Power. They maintain first place with 15-3 record. Our Saviour - UPDF 74-42

Rather predictable result when eighth ranked Our Saviour (7-7) smashed at home bottom-ranked UPDF (4-14) 74-42 on Saturday. Our Saviour held UPDF to an opponent 23.3 percent shooting from the field compared to 33.8 percent accuracy of the winners. Our Saviour forced 22 UPDF turnovers. It was a great evening for guard Joseph Wacha (-91) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Owen Majok (-96) helped adding 14 points and 13 rebounds. Four Our Saviour players scored in double figures. Forward Henry Okoth (-99) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds and swingman Felix Mukunzi (193) scored 12 points and 5 rebounds. UPDF's coach already knew that his team would not have a big chance, so allowed to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Our Saviour moved-up to seventh place. UPDF lost their fourth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost.

Tanzanian forward Fadhili Chuma (-95) helped adding 6 points and 12 rebounds. International center Ivan Lumanyika (205-92) responded with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds and forward Makala Libe (-95) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for UCU Canons. They moved-up to fifth place. Loser JKL Dolphins dropped to the sixth position with nine games lost.

KIU Titans made 25-of-32 free shots (78.1 percent) during the game. KIU Titans outrebounded UPDF 48-30 including a 13-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for guard Chris Omanye (183-94) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Ethienne Kazungu (-80) helped adding 11 points and 12 rebounds. Five KIU Titans players scored in double figures. Andrew Okot (201) responded with 25 points and forward Henry Okoth (-99) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds.
