NBL Round 10: City Oilers defeat leader Betway Power - Jul 23, 2018

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of top-ranked Betway Power (12-3) at the home court on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by second ranked City Oilers (11-3) 65-57. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. City Oilers outrebounded Betway Power 48-37 including 17 on the offensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of Burundian forward Landry Ndikumana (198-95) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 16 rebounds. The former international point guard Jimmy Enabu (187-88) contributed with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. The former international forward Joseph Ikong (193-85) replied with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for Betway Power. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. City Oilers have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 11-3 record behind leader Betway Power. Betway Power at the other side still keeps top place with three games lost. City Oilers' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kampala Pemba Warriors.
The game in was also worth to mention about. Third ranked KIU Titans (11-4) played at the court of 8th ranked Sharing Youth (6-9). KIU Titans defeated Sharing Youth 80-69. Tanzanian guard Sudi Ulanga (181-88) scored 28 points to lead the charge for the winners and Micheal Bwanga chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Francis Nitus responded with 14 points and 4 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. KIU Titans have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 11-4 record behind leader Betway Power. Sharing Youth at the other side dropped to the ninth place with nine games lost. KIU Titans will play against bottom-ranked UPDF (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Sharing Youth will play against the league's second-placed City Oilers in Kampala and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game between third ranked KIU Titans (11-4) and 10th ranked KCC Lions (5-12) in Kampala on Saturday ended with biggest points difference. KIU Titans outscored guests from 76-56. Chris Omanye notched 20 points to lead the effort. Even 8 points and 15 rebounds by Francis Mbuyi did not help to save the game for KCC Lions. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. KIU Titans have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 11-4 record behind leader Betway Power. Newly promoted KCC Lions keep the tenth place with 12 games lost. KIU Titans will meet at home bottom-ranked UPDF (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. KCC Lions will have a break next round.

Other games in round 10 were not that significant. Charging Rhinos was beaten by Ndejje on the road 72-56. UCU Canons won against KCC Lions on its own court 68-60. UCU Canons managed to outperform Charging Rhinos in a road game 64-52. Bottom-ranked UPDF recorded a loss to JKL Dolphins at home 52-57.
The most impressive performance of 10th round was 11 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists by Fadhili Chuma of UCU Canons.




Sharing Youth - KIU Titans 69-80

The game in was also worth to mention about. Third ranked KIU Titans (11-4) played at the court of 8th ranked Sharing Youth (6-9). KIU Titans defeated Sharing Youth 80-69. They outrebounded Sharing Youth 42-27 including a 20-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Tanzanian guard Sudi Ulanga (181-88) scored 28 points to lead the charge for the winners and guard Micheal Bwanga chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Francis Nitus responded with 14 points and 4 assists and forward Caesar Kizito (-88) scored 15 points. Four Sharing Youth players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. KIU Titans have a solid three-game winning streak. No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Ndejje (7-6) beat at home 11th ranked Charging Rhinos (4-12) 72-56 on Sunday. Godwin Muhamireho notched 12 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and Gauthier Baderha supported him with 9 points and 7 assists. Four Ndejje players scored in double figures. Even 12 points and 8 rebounds by the former international center Sam Gombya (213-89) did not help to save the game for Charging Rhinos. Guard Francis Kasekende added 14 points for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Ndejje have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place. Newly promoted Charging Rhinos keep the eleventh position with 12 games lost. They share it with UPDF. Ndejje will meet league's leader Betway Power in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Charging Rhinos will play against the league's leader Betway Power (#1) and hope to secure a win.
