NBL Round 1: JKL Dolphins lose to Charging Rhinos - May 14, 2018

The Regular Season in NBL just started. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

JKL Dolphins (0-1) recorded a loss in Kampala on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Charging Rhinos (1-1) 62-57. Guard Francis Kasekende fired 12 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Forward Daniel Ojoro chipped in 9 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Brian Namake (-90) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Charging Rhinos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kampala KIU Titans.
An exciting game was played in Kampala. Betway Power faced City Oilers. Guests from (2-0) defeated host City Oilers (0-1) 64-56. Worth to mention a great performance of Stephen Wundi who helped to win the game recording 15 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals. Fahmy Sebatindira contributed with 12 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Betway Power's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international James Okello (194-90) answered with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds for City Oilers. Betway Power will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. City Oilers will play against JKL Dolphins (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Betway Power faced Charging Rhinos. Host Betway Power (2-0) smashed guests from Kampala (1-1) 97-46. Paul Odong stepped up and scored 19 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. At the losing side Ian Magolukejje responded with 11 points and 7 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Betway Power will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Charging Rhinos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kampala KIU Titans.
We should mention about the upset which took place in , where UPDF (0-1) lost at home to Our Saviour (1-1) 64-75. Brian Ssentongo nailed a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Our Saviour's next round opponent will be JKL Dolphins (#9). UPDF will play against Ndejje and hope to win that game.

Other games of round 1 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
KIU Titans crushed KCC Lions in Kampala 82-55. Bottom-ranked Our Saviour lost to undefeated Sharing Youth at home 66-72. Winless KCC Lions lost to undefeated Ndejje on the opponent's court 48-72.
The best stats of 1st round was 25 points and 14 rebounds by Bernard Okumu of UPDF.



Charging Rhinos - JKL Dolphins 62-57

There was no surprise when KCC Lions (0-2) were crushed at home by KIU Titans (1-0) 82-55. KIU Titans shot 19 for 28 from the free-throw line, while KCC Lions only scored three points from the stripe. Forward Joseph Chuma (-91) nailed a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side and Tanzanian guard Sudi Ulanga (181-88) accounted for 15 points. Joshua Daullo came up with 6 points and 8 rebounds and Sam Charles added 11 points and 5 rebounds respectively for KCC Lions in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. KIU Titans' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kampala Pemba Warriors.

Sharing Youth players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Charles Semugabo nailed a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side and forward Malek Lino (-91) accounted for 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Mulamba Nkumbi came up with 23 points and guard Joseph Wacha (-91) added 8 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for Our Saviour in the defeat. Sharing Youth's next round opponent will be Ndejje (#3), which may be the game of the day. Our Saviour will play against JKL Dolphins and hope to win that game.

Very expected game when KCC Lions (0-2) were rolled over on the road by Ndejje (1-0) 72-48. Ndejje dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to KCC Lions' 28. Guard Innocent Ochera (-97) nailed 21 points and 4 assists for the winning side and Salim Kisily accounted for 8 points and 9 rebounds. Richard Ongom came up with 8 points and 9 rebounds and Enock Munyagwa added 7 points and 5 rebounds respectively for KCC Lions in the defeat. KCC Lions' coach gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Ndejje's next round opponent will be UPDF (#11) and are hoping to win another game. KCC Lions will play against UCU Canons and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
