Oilers, JKT Claim NBL Victories - May 11, 2016

Basketball giants Oilers, JKT and Prisons notched vital wins as the National Basketball League (NBL) matches rolled on Monday evening at the National Indoor Stadium. However, it was a sad day for Vijana City Bulls who lost by a single point in their 66-67 loss to Oilers. It was tough, but the most thrilling encounter of the day which saw attacks and counter-attacks being dealt professionally. Oilers had a comfortable 13-8 first quarter lead before Vijana responded strongly with 15-10 lead in the second quarter. The teams went for the breather tied 23 all, but on resumption it was Oilers who finished a 2-point ahead on 22-20-point score. Vijana fought back in the final quarter and managed a slim 23-22 win, only to find they were a point away from a draw. Oilers claimed a slim 67-66 victory at the end. Oilers netted their points through Erick John who chalked 18, Evance Davids added 12 points more while Mussa Mwakalobo and Shafii Songoro scored 11 and 9 points respectively. Vijana City Bulls netted their points through Mopero Baraka who had 14, Jocobu Marenga added 13 points, Haruna Saringo came out with 10 points and 7 points were fired home by Cornel Joseph.
In Ladies category, Tanzania Prisons defeated Kurasini 62-24 in a one-sided game held at the same venue on Monday.
