Swazilands basketball will once against be visible in the continent as of next year after about 14 years of exile from continental competitions. This comes after the Swaziland National Basketball Association (SNBA) registered the country among those to participate in two international tournaments next year. The last time Swaziland had a basketball national team was back in year 2000 and since then it had been difficult to have such because the sport had gone under until the Swaziland National Basketball League (SNBL) was incepted in 2012. SNBA President Clement Dlamini happily revealed that they had decided it was time to get back into the thick of things in the continent. We have registered the country to participate in the Afro-Basketball competition qualifying games as well as the All Africa Games, all of which are to be staged next year. After such a long time without a basketball national squad, we feel that now is the right time to go back and compete internationally because the standard of basketball locally is good, he stated. Dlamini said the team-selection process would be conducted during the 2014 SNBL season which is scheduled to begin in the weekend of April. Meanwhile, he thanked Dups Insurance for renewing the sponsorship for the second year running, while he encouraged other companies that would be willing to help in the development and growth of the sport to touch base with the SNBA because they need all the help they can get.
