South Sudan claimed their inaugural World Cup victory as they beat China in Group B action today. Carlik Jones (185-PG-1997, college: Louisville) once again led the African side with 21 points and 6 assists. South Sudan improved at 1-1 record, while China slipped at 0-2 in the ladder.
South Sudan grabbed a 22-14 lead after the opening quarter. China seemingly found their rhythm in the second period as they sank 26 points and pulled within 4 points at halftime 40-44. But South Sudan turned on the defensive pressure in the third term. They limited China to just 13 points in the next period to boost the lead to double figures. South Sudan added 26 points in the fourth frame to cruise to the crucial win. Kuany Kuany (206-F) accounted for 16 points in the victory. Kyle Anderson (206-G/F-1993, college: UCLA) answered with 22 points for China. Rui Zhao (195-SG-1996) delivered 13 points in the loss.
